I think one thing that happens to people in general but journalists especially is that they get some indicators of success like having money or prestige and interpret that to mean that whatever thought strikes them when they hear about something new is almost certainly correct and insightful
the media class is so cooked. people rightly complain that journalists don't know history but they also don't seem to know journalism. the idf's relationship with nypd has been reported on many times over the last decade.

The contrast between what Obama was expected to do to atone for Jeremiah Wright's sermons, which were not at all racist, and what Graham Platner is not expected to do to atone for his own public declarations, which are, is very revealing.
I don’t run a reform school for racism. I’m serious. He could, however, consult with people who do. Read books? I don’t know.
I do believe that should those acts present themselves during a campaign, voters can judge them — they can find them sufficient or wanting. Neither would be a purity test.
