NIH is ramping up efforts to fill a huge slate of vacant leadership positions.

Onlookers worry the process is being rushed and will depart, as it already has in one case, from the long-standing practice of drawing on advice from academic scientists to find candidates. https://scim.ag/47HraVv
Is NIH cutting corners as it rushes to fill leadership positions?
Unlike in the past, agency searches appear to exclude help from outside academic researchers

I can further confirm that @jenna-m-norton.bsky.social is experiencing retaliation by “Free speech” Jay and the Trump administration.

@standupforscience.bsky.social stands with her and will continue to support public servants who speak out against the harms of this administration.
NIH program officer @jenna-m-norton.bsky.social has been placed on admin leave, sources say.

Norton has been outspoken about the Trump administration's dismantling of science, and she signed the Bethesda Declaration.

Bhattacharya has said that "science is dead without free speech".

Remember when Congress controlled the budget?
Cute. 😏 That was so 1791.😉

Now it’s executive-branch roulette 🎰 with community health grants.

Public health isn’t supposed to depend on who’s behind the desk at OMB, currently Russ Vought.

Spotify is crashing HARD because of the boycott. Their stock dropped 11% in value over the last month. Let’s keep this going!

Tell everyone you know to boycott Spotify. There are plenty of alternatives that don’t run ICE advertisements and screw over artists.

Nice summary of the current state of affairs…get out and vote on Tuesday, if only for posterity.
I voted, as I wrote at the time, for compassion over fear, empathy over ignorance, humanity over mockery, hope over nihilism, progress over regress and decency over vulgarity.

The science is clear - SNAP reduces food insecurity, improves health outcomes, and lower healthcare costs.

Although fed judges ruled the admin can NOT withhold SNAP disbursements, it appears they plan to do just that.

Seems like exactly the thing that MAHA folks would want to know about - environmental toxins that interfere with male reproduction. Why then would Zeldin not want it released? In a lot of ways there are conflicts between MAHA and MAGA.
An EPA report found that the forever chemical PFNA interferes with human development and likely causes damage to the liver and male reproductive systems.

The agency has sat on the report for months. “Scientifically, it was done,” said one scientist.
