One of the first interviews I ever did was with John Kowalski, former head coach of the Tampa Bay Mutiny and Pittsburgh Riverhounds. In it, he stressed the importance of teams owning their own stadiums as being one of the most important things a team could do to ensure long-term viability.
It’s an amazing stadium and team. So much heart from the team and fans. Every NWSL team should have its own stadium.
The stadium for the Kansas City Current -- whose construction 40 banks refused to finance because there had never been a professional stadium built for a women's team -- just finished its second consecutive season of sold-out games.

There are so many lessons from tonight that are giving me hope, and I hope they aren’t lost on anyone thinking of running. Authenticity works. Loving where you’re from works. Respecting the agency, dignity, and immutable humanity of your constituents works. Showing up for your neighbors works.
