If you’re in Minneapolis and need a place to just BE right now, Big Hill Books and Birchbark Books & Native Arts are both open and ready to welcome you with open arms.

Even in 2026, I forget to post the link on Tuesdays. Better late than never?

This week we have stoires from @gmmitchell.bsky.social and @sharangbiswas.bsky.social

Come take a look at these two delightful, delicious stories.
Two Fic Tuesday for January 6th
Hi, hello, and welcome! It's a new year, but it's still Tuesday, which means I'm here to shout about stories. I've not been doing too much reading as of late, but I found these two and knew they belonged together. I'm someone who really enjoys weird ways people get close

there is no reason for ICE to exist. immigrants aren’t doing anything wrong by trying to live and work and provide for their loved ones. I don’t care how people got here. if they want to be here that’s good. leave them alone.

Human brains feed off of negativity. Negative thoughts are easily digested and play in a loop in your mind all of the time. The reality, however, is that there is also A LOT OF GOOD happening every single minute. You have to do more work to pay attention to the good but it's worth it.

If you have any funds to spare and want to help Minneapolis right now, getting dash cams to observers is crucially important and especially after today
ICE observers in the Twin Cities are in need of dash cams to prevent further intimidation and frivolous claims.

Cams are $110, memory cards $35, and ship to us directly via this wish list: www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/...

If you've been looking for a way to help, we'd sure appreciate it!

Organizers in Twin Cities making rare plea for folks to share broadly:
ICE ops have changed & escalated this week. They've moved to a 'flood-the-zone' strategy, nabbing anyone they can from bus stops, the sidewalk, cars, or homes. This means indiscriminate abductions and obviously no warrants.

Write the book you would like to see someone pull from a higgledy piggledy pile in a secondhand shop 63 years after your death and say, "This looks fucking weird. I think I will buy it for Joan."

A (slightly belated) happy new year! Allow me to introduce myself to those of you unfamiliar with my work; I’m Lee, I’m a painter from England, I’m a fan of abandoned buildings, moody narratives and quiet, mildly foreboding landscapes.

So, this happened today...

It's not great having to ask for help - but if you've enjoyed any of our books, we'd be hugely grateful if you could let people know about them (and where you can buy them)

Word of mouth is... pretty important, right now

Lot of upheaval and change this year. Read a lot (if not as much as I wanted to), wrote (same), started and stopped new things, adjusted to my new city, grieved, watched a lot of movies, got better at keeping a journal, got published (!), lived in a state of constant sorrow at the world, kept going.

‘I’m sorry, but if reading theory makes writing harder for you? Good! You should think about your writing more. You should think more. You should struggle more.’

@thelincoln.bsky.social’s excellent interview with Brandon Taylor:
Processing: How Brandon Taylor Wrote Minor Black Figures
The author on embodied characters, writing process, and how “a novel should show people fighting and striving against and with and for and alongside each other.”

I've been avoiding having an opinion on the gay hockey show, but this is a good thread on how fiction is, as ever, not reality.
Again, I truly *loved* this week’s episode of Heated Rivalry, but IT IS A WISH FULFILLMENT ROMANCE. The success of a gay hockey romance TV show, largely watched by people who are neither hockey players nor hockey fans, is not “proof that the world is ready and all we would do is love you”
