i’ll end this little brainstorm by just asking what it is, exactly, that the MAGA right likes about the United States, since it explicitly rejects those things that make this nation distinctive — its pluralism, its revolutionary heritage and egalitarian aspirations, and its republican institutions

This game changed my life.
Happy 28th anniversary Xenogears!
Truly a legend of the PS1 era and RPGs in general.

May it one day get a port. It probably never will but it's nice to dream.

One of the less well-known facts about Puerto Ricans is that you can tell a lot about their politics based on whether their Puerto Rican flags have American blue or Cuban blue.

It’s why I think a lot of American politics fall flat, because while they are all “conservative,” the new Anglo RW does not care about national security, it just is a racist movement who hates on immigrants/minorities and will gladly weaken its national standing to achieve this.

The next Democratic president better declare cold war on global fascism. Anything less would be a failure.

GOP branding is insane. Trump all but destroyed NATO cooperation and still +8 on national security, +1 on foreign policy!

Now that I have had time to dwell on it, Expedition 33 is in my top 5 favorite games, and the OST is #1, finally beating my beloved Xenogears for music.

Drives me up a wall seeing the right wingers who completely reject the “city on a hill” ethos claim to be pro “American exceptionalism.” It’s total opposition to everything that makes America special just wrapped in the stars & stripes to distract the rubes

and that is a problem for like the Bernie Sanders theory of change, where you turn out the huge population of disgruntled nonvoters and win big. these people are plainly not just waiting for social democracy

If a religion considers vanity a virtue and empathy a sin, that religion, whatever it calls itself, is not Christianity.
Why read past headlines: Perhaps you're hip enough to have heard of this trend.

Still, I dig in and connect it to larger and troubling right-wing Christian discourse, including the claim that empathy is a "sin".

People of my generation will not inherit the world we were promised. And this is after weathering two once-in-a-century recessions, student debt, and high housing costs.
It was a world historical fumble that changed the trajectory of America in a way we won't recover from in my lifetime.
Every now and then I just pause and think that … we could have just elected Kamala Harris, and we’d still have an economy that was the strongest in the world; we’d still have an American-led trans-Atlantic order; we’d be assured that our universities would remain the envy of the world; … (1/x)
