I've watched thousands of videos from the Jan. 6 riot as part of NPR's reporting and archive project on that day.

Here are some of the lesser known videos that have really stuck with me.

I'm just going to say here for nobody in particular that I'm mad about the whole Platner tattoo thing, but I ultimately do believe that people can change and (more importantly) that he specifically has.

An ICE agent, who is being arrested for drunk driving and nearly killing his little kids & others, tries to stop the arrest by racially profiling the officers arresting him. Amazing to watch the courtesy given to him as he is belligerent and uncooperative

/3 But a huge plurality, at least, of the modern GOP is of the opinion that noticing bigoted trash is more un-American and destructive than BEING bigoted trash: that dehumanizing fellow Americans based on immutable characteristics is morally superior to criticizing anyone for doing that.

Remember how we just went through a multi-week newscycle where Democrats and liberals were lambasted for their "violent" political rhetoric, which included Fox hosts claiming that only one political party was demonizing their political opponents as evil? And how libs needs to lower the temperature?
Leavitt: "The Democrat Party's main constituency is made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals."

You do not in fact have to praise the guy who said homeless people should be murdered with lethal injections and then apologized four days later to save his job. Let's get a grip here.
Brian Kilmeade deserves praise for his apology.
Brian Kilmeade apologized for his comments about homeless people getting lethal injections this morning on Fox & Friends, saying "so many homeless people deserve our empathy and compassion."

Here's the clip of his apology 👇

a new washington post / GMU poll finds trump 15 points net negative on immigration, soft disapproval of his handling of LA protests (with lots of don't knows).

the narrative that these protests are good for trump is not supported by data at this point. see: www.gelliottmorris.com/p/why-the-la...

Really important story - army officials asked soldiers to identify themselves if they don't agree with Trump's politics that way he'd get only supportive soldiers in uniform during his political rally on base. Heavier soldiers were also barred from participating.

At no point in this entire article of 16 paragraphs does ABC mention that another cop killed this cop by shooting her in the back. Nor does it mention the name of the cop who killed this cop. Nor does it mention that the civilians involved never fired at them.

ABC might as well be state media.

The administration has been hitting the “invasion” rhetoric and portraying the protests as being driven by immigrants because, as in the Alien Enemies Act cases, they want to use wartime and battlefield measures. Don’t let the rhetoric go by uncontradicted.

what people seem to believe is that there is a large number of criminal, layabout immigrants who can be easily found and deported. they support doing so snd are dismayed by the deportation of otherwise law abiding people. the problem is that the criminal group is imaginary!
Wow. New CBS poll finds majority (55%) supports the *general goal* of deportations, but a bigger majority (56%) dislikes how Trump is carrying them out. And 63% want due process.

Again, we need a better discourse around public opinion on immigration, as I've argued:

Millions of conservatives believe that most US cities literally burned to the ground five years ago and there’s no convincing them otherwise, because they’ll never go visit.
They figured out after 2020 that there's actually no real need for there to be riots for "omg there are riots!" to be a widely adopted reality.
