i was actually shocked to see the numbers on new research from Global Energy Monitor on new gas projects in the US: nearly 100 gigawatts of power—enough to power tens of millions of homes—are currently in development explicitly to power data centers. At the end of 2023 that number was 4 gigawatts
Data Centers Are Driving a US Gas Boom
Gas projects in the US pipeline explicitly linked to data centers increased by almost 25 times over the past two years, according to new research from Global Energy Monitor.

#Goodgym #Barnet have been helping asylum seekers across the borough volunteer with local community projects. There's so much need and they are so eager to help, it's great to be able to break down barriers!

No more of that Johari Window rubbish about 'things we don't know we know': they know alright.

Ecological experts keep talking about 'old landscapes' - habitats that take centuries to form and sustain some of the rarest, most enriching parts of nature, and they can't be offset by weak metrics.

Driving is a privilege, earned through assessment and retained via acceptable standards.

Why should such people ever be allowed to lawfully drive again and share the road with victims?

We would never return a firearms licence to someone who unlawfully used a gun to kill. Why is driving different?
A driver doing 50mph in a 20mph limit killed 27 year old Harry Webb two years ago in Kenworthy Rd in Hackney.

Communities rightly remember people killed on roads, treated as race tracks, by people speeding through.

We all need to be clear that speeding is harmful and a risk never worth taking.

UPDATE: 3 things I learned today

1) Political leaders haven’t thought much about the health threats of CO2 capture and storage. Eg CO2 pipelines have kill zones. Leaks can acidify aquifers and mobilize heavy metals.

2) 45Q tax credits for CCS are now by far the biggest subsidy to oil and gas

AND…
Here at the US Capitol to talk with some senators about the risks and harms of carbon capture and storage, which is mostly used to extract more oil from ground, enjoys taxpayer subsidies, is prone to escape, threatens drinking water and public health, and is generally scammy.

Science belongs here.
