My program sent this out so I guess it's really official now!
Every once in a while, something happens that makes me stop and think...I'm glad I'm still around.

Current status: utterly at peace. Life is good. What an amazing weekend.

Totally ignoring the fact that perfectly healthy people has their health completely devastated by the last pandemic, cool cool cool. Because viruses clearly care if you get your 10k steps in.
Jay Bhattacharya's plan for a new pandemic is for everyone to suddenly be healthy.

I am begging you, universe. Please. Make this happen. It would be the highlight of this year.
If there was suddenly a giant shark in every PSA video, would that improve the reach of our messaging?
Are you located in the DC-Baltimore-Philadelphia-New York corridor?

Have you always wanted to have your very own 11 foot long papier-mâché hammerhead shark?

Now available for free!

Perfect for museums, community centers, or your living room!

Save this lovely creature from imminent destruction!

It is so strange being in a healthy*(?) (romantic?) adult human relationship.

I don't dislike it, I just...don't understand? What do you mean he actually likes me for me and not what I can do for him?**

*according to my therapist
**we're working on this, there's a lot to process/unlearn.

Sister: sends a screenshot of the movie she's watching.

Me: you're watching Barbie in the Nutcracker (2001), the first Barbie movie, released directly to VHS. We have the Christmas ornament. We have the VHS. I have seen this movie so many times I know the words & dances by heart.

RE starbucks picket line--the relevant detail is "picket line, do not cross." Pass that along. Proclaiming that you are in no danger of doing so because you are too aesthetically pure to let Starbucks coffee pass your lips is...unhelpful and does not give the impression you perhaps imagine it does.

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

Some books fade into the memory of your childhood, a hazy recollection that resurfaces when you sleep.

And others are burned into your soul for all eternity, living rent-free in your consciousness, rekindled any time you see a pot of pasta.

New rule: You're not allowed to even attempt to call yourself a great country if this is happening in it. Healthy/nutritious food should be available to ALL, full stop.

Good that this school is filling a need, absolutely appalling that it's necessary.

The food pantry at Brashear High School is open once a week, and each student gets about five minutes to shop. Any snacks they don't take often go to teachers, to offer to hungry pupils. n.pr/47NnEYp
For students who rely on SNAP, school food pantries offer some relief

This is so beautiful! Seeing the aurora in person continues to be a life goal 😍
So this happened an hour ago. I don’t think I’ve seen red this deep in a long time. You could see it quite clearly with the naked eye. #aurora

ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

This is what I try to always tell people: food banks can do way more with your money than you can, due to bulk buying deals. And they can do way, way more with your money than with the canned goods you didn’t want to eat
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

Today I took a mental health day and discovered the joys of World Market, a store with vegan gummy candy I've never seen outside the EU/UK. I'm excited about this. They also had better-than-Nutella (palm oil free), which was my primary motivation for venturing forth in the first place.

Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Never underestimate how far a kind word or gesture will go. When a university president insists on calling you Dr. after you mention you finished your PhD this spring or a provost invites you to call them by their first name, it can really mean a lot.
