This is a good read, as all CW's stuff is, but Wales may chuck all this out with the bathwater 'cos they don't like that bloke in London.
In this guest post, writer, broadcaster and host of podcast @callingallstations.bsky.social, @christianwolmar.bsky.social explains how Wales is quietly getting its transport policy right and what the rest of the UK could learn from it.

Cycle using mates in London and elsewhere, please respond to this consultation! It ends on 28th Jan. Lots of folk are trying to halt the building of a separated cycle track in Westminster, including the folk who got the Ken High Street track ripped out.

This won't be big news, but it should be, ground rents can be crippling burden for absolutely nothing in return, well done Labour.
We promised in our manifesto to “tackle unregulated and unaffordable ground rent charges”.

We’re honouring that commitment today by legislating to cap ground rents at £250 per year, changing to peppercorn after 40 years.

This is very good news, particularly the shameful tax breaks offered to Scottish shooting estates.
The Scottish Government has agreed to both key
@scottishgreens.org tax proposals:

✈️ A new tax on the 12,000 private jet flights taken in Scotland every year

🏰 A 'Mansion Tax' on £1 million+ homes

This will raise millions for services like schools and our NHS.

Jeremy Clarkson needs to sell his tax haven farm and move to a 15 minute city (actually a Scottish Village) like me. A Dr, vet, optician, shops, pubs and restaurants and cafes within a 15 minute walk. Poor sod!
Jeremy Clarkson complains about no village Doctor, no village shops, no village schools, no bobby.

This is the same Jeremy Clarkson who loves Margaret Thatcher and David Cameron who made all these things happen with their cuts.

They love complaining about what they voted for.

Went to see this excellent exhibition at Modern 2 in Edinburgh today, some incredible images, particularly of the Jarrow Marchers and similar, groups of women marching 100's of miles for jobs, walking in tweed, rain coats and court shoes...

If it was in the North it would not exist.
See:
HS2 phase 2.
Northern Powerhouse rail
Leeds tram system.

If Westminster cared enough to invest in a long term transport strategy for the north it would have huge benefits.
It’s worth mentioning, though it’s been said repeatedly: the Lizzie Line carries 1/6th of UK daily rail passengers (not including the Tube) and has already paid off its entire costs.

And if HS2 had been committed to, without plans being tweaked every 5 minutes, Phase 1 would be opening next year.
