A lot of London's great houses had vast private gardens, now long sold off. The Naval and Military Club in St James once had landscaped gardens laid out by Capability Brown. Hence my comment it was once v green, but a lot of that greenspace was inaccessible to most folk.

East London famously suffered the stink from the tanneries of Bermondsey due to prevailing winds. That's why the poor lived there, the better off lived in the west.

In 30 years time as a drone delivers a tray of drinks costing £347.00 to a table and the on screen host asks folk to name the British PM's between 2010 and 2025 that'll be the one they all miss, same as the 1966 England player nobody remembers and the Magnificent 7 one we all forget!

I'm not responding to that ding-a-ling and have muted him. Pointless and I've stuff to do, like watch an old film or something.

Do you have to pay £1.1K a month for a room in a former council house built at public expense and inherited by the children of the original tenant to who it was sold for a fraction of it's value and is now a wealthy landlord having turned the lounge and into another two sleeping areas?

'But I think it’s fair that long term tenants be given the right to set down longer term roots.'
And they had that, with security of tenure, and there is not an infinitesimal bank of land available to keep building social housing on. Once the housing built is gone, it's gone.

It does if the former social houses are privately owned tenanted properties. Social houses ensure a reasonably priced housing stock is there for all to access. Not priced at the most expensive market rate.
