My diary entry for 28th Jan 1986 reads "the Space Shuttle blew up at half past four, they had a news flash in the middle of Splash". The entry continues with news that "I've found nine photos in Terrormolinos, and that other than that nothing really happened today"
A formative TV memory of mine is watching BBC's Newsround break the news of the Challenger shuttle accident, just minutes after it had happened. And the presenter (Roger Finn) in his woolly jumper being not quite as calm as Newsround newscasters usually were. Anyway, that's 40 years ago today.
