Wife: why do we have so many tamales?!

Me: Uh…Welcome to the resistance?
Yesterday, when Bovino announced ICE would be returning to Little Village today, some of us donated and fundraised to buy out street vendors in the neighborhood. This morning, volunteers hit the streets at 6:30 am, looking for vendors to buy out. Tamales make an excellent breakfast.

My guess now is that the administration doing everything it can to make things worse is actually an attempt to pressure *republicans*, rather than democrats

I mean, the funny thing is, we already know how to end most scarcity, we just decide not to do it

(* "we" meaning society, not you specifically)
I’m going to regret asking this, but… what mechanism are people proposing whereby AI will “end scarcity”?

This feels like literal underpants gnomes thinking, and as I never tire of pointing out, it’s being driven by a lot of the same actual people
AI could end scarcity, end humanity - or boost trend growth by 0.2 percentage points

The lump of labor fallacy is more than 130 years old. If sophisticated people believe, despite everything, that AI will take all jobs, you can't educate them out of it, you can only take cold comfort in the money you will make from betting the other way

If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

Last week, @ganeumann.bsky.social joined @bcantrill.bsky.social and me to discuss his blog post from 2015, examining the work of Carlota Perez on technological revolutions. Common themes: frenzy, bust, and deployment. Is AI a new wave or the culmination of the IT wave of the last 50 years?

Worth remembering how 100 years ago, renowned electrical engineer Charles Steinmetz forecasted: within 100 years, industrial use of electricity would enable a four-hour workday.

He was 100% right about the impact of electricity.

And yet, 100 years later we still work 8+ hrs per day…
