Yellow-centered Waxy Cap - Hygrophorus flavodiscus
One of the more cold tolerant mushrooms around. It seems to actually prefer fruiting in November. Most other mushrooms I see in November are growing despite the season rather than because of it.

Eastern Dwarf-Mistletoe - Arceuthobium pusillum
New to me
Since I was trying to teach and keep eyes on people yesterday, most of my "new to mes" from yesterday were pointed out to me. I'm so glad someone was keeping an eye out for this. It's common, but has been eluding me for years.

Fuscopannaria leucosticta - White-rimmed Shingle Lichen
New to me
If I'm using the lingo of my overseas lichen brethren correctly, this is an absolute cracker of a lichen.

Had a lot of fun today getting out with a group of lichen geeks today.

Even got some great advice to try to revisit the vaguely recorded location of a historical rare lichen occurrence. I'm told the guy who found it in the 70s didn't like going far from his car. That actually narrows so much down.

Black Foam Lichen - Anzia colpodes
New to me
This one's cheating because someone showed it to me. Still the best lichen I've seen in a couple months I think.
A primarily Appalachian lichen in distribution with a small population extending into Canada.

It's 3am and I blame being awake on trying Jerusalem artichokes.
They're delicious, but they made beans sound tone deaf by comparison.

Physcomitrium patens can survive in space. It's not gonna grow there, but it can survive.
This moss survived 9 months outside the International Space Station in the harshness of space | CBC News
Space is a harsh environment: it's a vacuum with freezing temperatures, super high ultraviolet radiation and, of course, almost no oxygen. But Japanese researchers have found a type of moss that doesn...

Think I saw my first flying squirrel gliding in front of my vehicle as I was driving.
Even if it were on camera I think it would still have been a grey blur.
But it was after the sun went down, it wasn't all flappy like a bat, and the angle of travel suggested gliding rather than flight.

Picked myself up a little treat to pass the time on the cold days.
Last time I examined dollarama craft supplies and looked into where it came from I didn't end up approving of the supply chain.

Hey chat, I’m out of work because of chronic illness and i’m in the process of getting out of my lease and trying to get somewhere safe. That’s difficult without income. I still have some sets of decorative mushroom magnets made from my artwork. They’re $10 USD, shipped (US only) Dm if interested 🍄✨
