"But out here, on Sunday, October 2, where it rains all day, Dame Mutability never loses"
setting aside the actual problem, i've seen a surprising number of people claim there's /no way/ a college junior could write that badly without it being some kind of intentional slight.

alas, no, the literacy crisis is real & the dis/incentives created by, eg, this situation prevent addressing it

what a fabulous moment to be on the academic job market :)
So, an OU student a shitty reaction paper in a psych course, got failed by a grad student TA for not following directions and threatened legal action, while also getting her uni TPUSA chapter to post the essay. Her mother is on X saying trans people must not be allowed to be professors.

This is…

The very obvious public pressure campaigns for an ongoing disciplinary investigation are ridiculous and punitive, but admins fundamentally care very little about protecting staff.

Meanwhile, the student sees a chance to start her podcasting career, so the case doesn’t matter much to her.

there's an incredibly solemn baby on the bus this morning, wearing a pink fuzzy hat with bear ears. People wave and smile to the baby and the baby waves back with unadulterated seriousness, pun intended.

another one for the transphobes making things sound more based than they are files. what school was committed (committed!!) to transcending the gender binary?
Yuri Slezkin in NYRB on the cessation of Western civilization as a community. Are weird anti-trans asides of ringing falsehood (as if gender diversity is born of institutions!) now a thing over at the New York Review? (cf Susan Nieman's recent piece on "woke" with a weird bathroom remark)

if u, like me, find yourself in a city hostile to pleasantries, try delivering them as statements. "hey how are ya." gets way better results than waiting for acknowledgement after each component.
