All the leaves on our ginkgo tree have fallen, carpeting our driveway in sunshine. Also, it took me ages before I could consistently type "ginkgo" correctly, so I am happy to have an excuse to use it today.

When you book a flight through major travel sites, a data broker owned by U.S. airlines will sell details about your flight—your name, credit card used, and where you’re flying to the government.

We found out how to opt-out of ARC selling your travel data. A guide:

The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC), owned by major U.S. airlines, collects billions of ticketing records and sells them to the government to be searched without a warrant. I managed to opt-out…

Only 29 asylum appeals have been made to the ECHR in the last 45 years you dimwit. For that non-existent benefit you would sacrifice the right to life, liberty, fair trial, freedom of expression, thought, religion, protection from torture, slavery, etc.
Fucking idiot.

Facial recognition is one of the most pernicious technologies of recent times. It's not going to go away so every deployment must be highly regulated and transparent. This is surveillance state stuff.

Sigh, yes.

This four month old post somehow resurfaced and, ugh, the CV community really does have a lot to answer for. Just about the only use of CV is surveillance, and pretending the thrust of the technology is something more noble, more uninvasive, is nothing but deception.
New paper hot off the press www.nature.com/articles/s41...

We analysed over 40,000 computer vision papers from CVPR (the longest standing CV conf) & associated patents tracing pathways from research to application. We found that 90% of papers & 86% of downstream patents power surveillance
