Imagine you are in a post-apocalyptic world with zombies. There is a spray you can use to ward off zombies. It works well, but is short-acting.

Someone made a new spray that is more long-acting. You want to test it out to see the difference.

I'm here outside Speaker Johnson’s office because he is starving families and gutting health care to cover up the Epstein Files.

Change my mind.

On the occasion of Halloween, @newrepublic.com asked me to write about what’s going on in Chicago and I wanted you all to know what randomized terror feels like. And also that as the federal government fails our kids, everyday Chicagoans are showing the courage of trying to protect them.
ICE Is Terrorizing Chicago for Halloween—and Parents Are Fighting Back
Fear and a whiff of tear gas hang over festivities this year. In response, even people who aren’t usually politically engaged are mobilizing.

It's wrong to call this "the Justice Department." He wants $230 million from the US taxpayer. Federal dollars. DOJ isn't some private company or NGO.
Breaking News: President Trump wants $230 million from the Justice Department for investigating him, people familiar with the matter say. Any settlement might ultimately be approved by senior department officials who defended him or those in his orbit. nyti.ms/4hmIi5X

a functional press would, every single day, repeatedly, across numerous paragraphs in every story about him, make it clear that this is indisputably the most corrupt President in U.S. history
Trump: "It's awfully strange to make a decision where I'm paying myself. But I was damaged very greatly and any money I would get I would give to charity."

Not being even vaguely sarcastic:

At some point, a journalist needs to ask Johnson “you regularly claim you have no idea what your own government is doing. If we take you at your word, how are you so poorly informed, and do you this level of ignorance should disqualify you as speaker?”
Q: What's your message to the 170 US citizens who have been detained by ICE? About 20 of them are children

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know what you're talking about with the children. I haven't seen that so I'm not going to comment on it.

This is particularly galling when federal workers experience retaliation under claims of violating the Hatch Act for lawfully exercising their first amendment rights while off duty.
The coordinated Hatch Act violations by the White House confirm the lawlessness of this administration.

They believe they can ignore the law and Constitution with impunity and the lawless Supreme Court will sign off on it.
SCOOP — The White House instructed all federal agency leadership on Tuesday to send out a mandatory message to workers blaming the impending potential government shutdown on House Democrats, The Handbasket was first to learn. Absolutely no modifications to the email were permitted.

Elementary school children are having to navigate thru a standing clutch of masked…who are they?

“This is ridiculous,” a woman can be heard saying.

Yes. And insanely dangerous.
Here's what the third day of elementary school looked like in Mount Pleasant, Washington DC.

This is true. And it is despicable that Jay Bhattacharya is smearing Steve Rosenberg on Twitter. Despicable.

Shifting blame is a sign of a horrible leader. Bhattacharya needs to take responsibility for what’s happening at NIH instead of trying to blame scientists.

Our NIH director tried to launch an online mob against a world renowned cancer researcher who had the audacity to honestly report what was happening with his clinical trials

The mob arrived alright, but they weren’t mad at this cancer researcher.

My latest.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya Tried to Summon a Social Media Mob to Bully and Silence a Dissident Scientist, but the Mob Had Other Ideas
The mob doesn't trust the medical establishment, and today Dr. Bhattacharya is the medical establishment.

Thanks to our brave patients for speaking up when they are going through such unimaginable circumstances
Richard Schlueter is 56, with stage 4 metastatic cancer. Through a clinical trial, NIH created a personalized immunotherapy. It's in a freezer.

But the technician who prepares cells for infusion was fired in the probationary purge, delaying his treatment.

His custom cancer therapy is in an NIH freezer. He may not get it in time.
The purge of probationary federal workers included skilled lab personnel who would have finalized a customized cell immunotherapy for cancer patients.

Very proud of our team’s work and hoping it serves as foundation for IO studies into traditionally ICI-insensitive cancers.
Grateful to Dr. Rosenberg for his leadership!
