More of this, everywhere
"The Spanish bill, which needs to be approved by the lower house, classifies non-compliance with proper labelling of AI-generated content as a "serious offence" that can lead to fines of up to 35 million euros ($38.2 million) or 7% of their global annual turnover." www.reuters.com/technology/a...
Spain to impose massive fines for not labelling AI-generated content
Spain's government approved a bill on Tuesday imposing massive fines on companies that use content generated by artificial intelligence (AI) without properly labelling it as such, in a bid to curb the use of so-called "deepfakes".

Just wanna expand this a bit because so many hashtag resisters respond to any pushback on language (ableist, homophobic, racist, etc.) with hostility disguised as tactical savvy: "MAGA uses these words but you want us to fight with our hands tied?"

But it amounts to

"Why don't we *get to* say it?"
hey i don't know how many of y'all resisters ever see my posts but i want to impress upon you how important it is to speak plainly and not try to use words as a win button, especially ableist language.

not "he's ins*ne" when he's a liar
not "that policy is crazy" when that policy will kill people

Bunch people accused me of misinformation saying they’re targeting the disease not the people with the disease.

I’d like to ask: you think autism and ADHD and neurodivergence is a disease? And why exactly (and how exactly) do you think it’s ok to reduce the number of people with these conditions?
This commission statement refers to people with Autism, ADHD, asthma, auto-immune disease, and chronic illness as a “dire threat to the American people and our way of life”.

This is a manifesto against disability.

This is the language of eugenics.

Okay, so at the request of the lovely @trance.bsky.social , I'm going to tell a story about what happens when a shitty person is "just joking", and then discovers there are consequences.

Just to be clear, this is already illegal and prevented by current legislation, which should be enforced.

What is the enforcement plan for the new legislation?
Schumer: "Today Leader Jeffries and I are joining together to push legislation to prevent unlawful meddling in the Treasury Department's payment systems and protect Americans across the country ... we call our legislation, 'stop the steal'"

I'm sorry, but "they took over the whole federal payments system, fired the career staff, and won't let anybody see what they're doing" is not a situation in which you wait for more information. It's a situation in which you assume the worst. There's no explanation for it other than rampant crimes.

Hey if anyone has put off calling their elected officials because (like me) talking to humans on the phone makes you nervous, just know that right now both of my senators’ offices are sending calls to voicemail because of unusually high call volume. Right now is an excellent time to leave a message!

Nice people are struggling over the revelations on Gaiman, and something I keep hearing is, 'His work had a big influence on how I shaped my own identity.' So here's something to remember:

You did that. He didn't do it for you. 1/

I’ve spent the last couple hours racing my toddler to see if I can clear the living room floor enough to vacuum before he takes out all the toys I just cleaned up. Unfortunately he has way more energy than I do so now it looks like he’s winning
