Hi! I'm Abby, farmer at Foxtrot Farm in Ashfield, MA. We're a 6-acre farm that grows mostly botanicals, elderberries, and weird foods that walk the line between food and medicine.

I started this farm eight years ago with the goal of growing climate resilient crops in climate resilient ways.
Nothing like paying your taxes while also donating to legal fights against the actions now funded by said taxes while donating to the essential services that are supposed to be funded by, yep, your taxes while your taxes are used to line the pockets of living caricatures of evil villains.

Still can’t believe how many folks separately messaged me a kind note that contained the phrase, “I believe in you” over the past few days. Like 🥹😭 it’s got me all in my feelings. What incredibly powerful words to receive.

To avoid civilisation collapse the amount invested in fossil fuels needed to be NEGATIVE for a few years already.

This isn’t good news.

That we are still investing in fossil fuels is not only catastrophically horrific. It is insane.
Things are moving:

Global investment in clean energy overtook investment in fossil fuels in 2016.

In 2024, 80% more money was invested in clean energy than fossil fuels.

Hey, new faces around here! I imagine some of you found me because of that (accidentally) viral (eek) Facebook (ugh) post. Welcome! I’m a full time farmer, but my background is in journalism, education, and climate activism, so if you thought maybe I was doing something intentional in that post, 1/?

Incredible news!

The Trump administration's under 19 trans care ban has been BLOCKED in federal court via a bench temporary restraining order.

The administration CANNOT withhold funds from hospitals providing trans youth care.

“Blistering” is a little strong for what happens here, but I am glad that of all the assholes in congress, Jim McGovern is ours.

(When that Worcester accent peaks through, ugh, I feel a weird amount of affection for him.)

USDA freezes farmer funding for some programs, conservation contracts
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has frozen some funding for farmers as it goes through a sweeping review, despite assurances from the Trump administration that programs helping farmers would not be affected in the government overhaul.

I’m a cis woman and being in community with trans and nonbinary people is the privilege of a lifetime. The monsters in power want to convince us that we are threats to each other, but it’s more clear all the time that our dignity and liberation are closely intertwined.

We don't have to be praying people to employ this. If there's a thing you're yearning for or principles you believe in, ask yourself: how, even in small ways, am I working to make these things a reality? And if you're answer is, "I'm not," how are you going to change that?
Last year, I listened to an interview with Reverend Muther Issac— whom you might remember as the Palestinian reverend in Bethlehem on the West Bank who cancelled Christmas. And he said: If you're not working to be the answer to your own prayers, you're not praying right. That changed me.

And just a reminder that everything, including farming is political and affected by politics! So many farmers (including us) were counting on Climate Smart funding for the next four years. Funding was intended to help farmers make adaptations to survive the effects of climate change.

Delighted to announce that I wrote a few very political things in a newsletter today and only had 4 people unsubscribe. This tells me that I've been doing a good job of communicating my values up to this point!

Thanks for guessing @perennialhomestead.bsky.social ! You're so close! That 1793 of fresh herbs dried down to 296#.
Less than 275# is my guess!

In this total lie, falsely claiming he has given California unlimited water, Trump normalizes the idea that the military "entering" a blue state at his command has magically solved an environmental problem.

Incredibly dangerous stuff, as #climatechange accelerates.

Ok, here's a fun game. In 2024, we grew 1793 lbs of fresh herbs that we then dridehydrted and processed. Anyone want to guess how many pounds we had total once the herbs were dried?

plus, my mom gave me an old tin biscuit cutter of my grandmother’s over the holidays, so I particularly feel like I’m opening an ancestral portal today.
