Important to note that this is PEOPLE Magazine — the most soft-focus, feel-good, normie mom magazine in the country — covering ICE’s atrocities with blunt, heartbreaking headlines

This is massive news that I somehow totally missed. Thank god for @boltsmag.org, seriously
JUST IN: Virginia's legislature just adopted a constitutional amendment that would end Virginia's rules that ban people from voting for life.

Virginia currently is the only state that strips people of voting rights for life for any felony. Youngkin rolled back reforms.

Now going to a referendum.
Virginia Lawmakers Ask Voters to Repeal a Jim Crow-Era Lifetime Ban on Voting - Bolts
Voters will decide this year whether to end Virginia’s uniquely harsh felony disenfranchisement rules. They'll also vote on abortion, gay marriage, and redistricting.

Every city they have terrorized has fought back in its own way. LA had protests and cell videos. DC had annoyed feds and grand-jury no-bills. Chicago had priests. Charlotte had angry grandma scaring feds off her lawn. The Twin Cities are showing sheer, dedicated, relentless presence.

The only thing that can halt the ongoing MAGAfication of the judiciary is a Democratic senate win in November. If you’re not thinking about how to win in Texas, Alaska, Iowa, Ohio, Kansas, and Florida you’re asking the wrong question.

Merry Christmas Eve!

Remember that there are NO RULES TONIGHT!
If you feel weird about being festive when the world's like this, we wrote a book for you about celebrating Christmas under a dictator.

It wasn't a religious holiday in the days of curfew in Korea, it was an act of resistance.

Here's an antifascist Christmas carol from No Rules Tonight.

I count 10 cities in 2025 that are on track to have the fewest murders since at least 1970. Newark is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1956 (though only have data through Oct this year) and San Francisco is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1942.

The people who showed up to vote for a write-in dem candidate in a Trump+50 special election 2 days before Christmas are democracy's strongest soldiers.
Polls closed in SC at 7 PM ET. Results here: www.enr-scvotes.org/SC/125770/we...

Still *super* early, but in the uncontested #SD21 (around Trump+50), write-ins are currently getting 42% of the vote against Republican Lee Bright.

The new Knives Out movie is good. Two takes:
*It works because Blanc is not the dominant character.
*It will get hate from the right because the worst protagonists are right wing coded, but the core themes - power of faith, community, institutions - are actually quite conservative

A huge night for Democrats:

—They flip Miami's mayorship.
—They flip a state House district in Georgia that had voted Trump by 13%.
—They keep Albuquerque's mayorship, while the liberal faction flips city council.
—And they get big overperformances (+18 & +22) in 2 Florida specials.
