Sayad's work is so good and I wish it found a broader audience both inside and outside the Francophone world. Thinking the Irish emigration experience through Sayad would be fascinating.
Currently re-reading Abdelmalek #Sayad for an article.

Really moving find in Dakar archives today. A letter from Sira Sangare asking the Minister of the Colonies to intervene to help find out what happened to her son. He had been mobilised in May 1916 but all trace of him vanished in the autumn of 1918. No record was found to confirm his fate.

Gilroy und Trouillot sind jetzt erstmals in deutscher Übersetzung erschienen, und ich finde es interessant, wie hier mal wieder „postkoloniale Theorie“ verhandelt wird. Der „Zionismus“, von dem Gilroy spricht, ist jedenfalls ein christlicher. Btw auch Eric Williams wurde gerade erstmals übersetzt.
