Microbial life getting ready to displace us once the supervolcano goes boom:

🦠what, the superheated acid rain is dissolving your flesh? oh noes, have you tried mitosis lol
During a rare "swarm" of earthquakes in Yellowstone, the amount of microbial life present increased by 6.5 times before dropping back to normal after the tremors subsided
Yellowstone’s earthquakes spark microbial boom deep underground
Earthquake swarms can supercharge microbial growth

I have yet to see any evidence that there is a market for AI-generated books outside of people being tricked into thinking they are not AI-generated books. AKA, it is a project of scamming and deceiving people, and really should be treated as fraud

I just found out someone I know uses an AI service to check (and tweak) the tone of their e-mails because they're neurodivergent and struggle with that, which I sort of get, but the obvious question to me is, if you don't do tone well yourself, how do you know the AI is doing any better?
One of the easiest ways to shoot down the idea that "AI" is an expert is to show how it deals with something people know about.

Younger readers may not get this as most appliances come pre-wired, but anyone 35+ can see these are chaotic fire hazards.

From Mastodon, AI asked how to wire a plug:

The alien ambassador sidled through the museum in awe.

"You Humans have so much art! Do you have machines to make all paintings, poems, stories and songs?"

"We experimented with that, briefly," the guide said. "But humans are both cheaper and more creative. And, well, we will make art regardless."

Please don't use this AI slop.

There are many scientists and artists who have produced accurate and beautiful images you could use.

You might want to check the trouble that the British Museum got into recently.

Shame on you.

Watching one of those wilderness survival shows on Netflix and it'll never not be funny how quickly a contestant will go from "I have the lone wolf mindset in a field of betas so I've already won" to sobbing under a sheet of tarpaulin because a teammate ate their portion of moss for the day.

Mark Kermode reviews "Melania".

The review is short on jokes, but makes a powerful case that it is utterly horrific. Bezos should be ashamed of what he made.

But billionaires are incapable of shame.

The Prince Andrew interview foreshadowed this. Someone completely unused to being held to account, who crumbled under scrutiny. Plenty more Prince Andrews out there, who will gladly throw each other under the bus.
The thing about Epstein's death and this partial file release is that it's now impossible for his accomplices to get their stories straight. People are getting grilled on things that they thought were long ago buried, and several will fold under that pressure. The narrative is out of their control.
"Epstein’s most stupendous feat was to become a powerful New York insider after being registered as a sex offender" - no, that was confirmation of his place within a particular elite. www.ft.com/content/3f82...

the Venn diagram of “people willing to pay for Twitter so their replies are boosted” and “people capable of making funny comments” is just two completely separate circles side by side
twitter must be dead dead cause someone posted a rat coin purse that would have 2019 twitter losing its collective mind and most of the top comments are bots saying random words or people not nearly amped enough about the rat coin purse
