Consider this my once-per-leap year note- voting for your school trustees should not be an afterthought of mayoral and council contests.

School boards control hundreds of millions of dollars (sometimes $1B+) of public money and set key policies.

If you wouldn't expect a dentist hygienist to clean your teeth for love of oral hygiene or a mechanic to change your oil for love of cars, you should not expect a writer to provide free books for love of the creative process.

One hundred thousand percent agree.
The very first decoupling from America we should do is not allow Canadian media to be majority owned by Americans anymore, it would change a lot.

Wild things that happened today:
- Jason Kenney sounded reasonable for five minutes (I know)
- my dad, a hardcore Conservative, waxed lyrical about Trudeau today
- my kid’s hockey team played their best game of the year and tied the “top” team in their league

I’d say net + but the news is on now.

Hey folks rather than quote tweeting links from Cross Country Checkup or Hanomansing, giving them engagement they so desperately crave, I'd suggest taken 3 minutes and writing to the CBC Ombudsman who will take our complaints seriously.

The world is shocked with Trump’s callous indifference toward #Ukraine.

Maybe because I lived behind the Iron Curtain, or because I read history books not only written in the West, I’m not shocked.

Here’s why:

Pass it on.
Nice Americans, a plea:

There are many of you here. Hello.

Please stop imagining the benefits of Canada being consumed by America.

Instead advocate against this horrific notion.

Wasting time imagining it happen is time you can better spend fighting against it.

1/ Last week, the CBC reported on Valleyview Public Library in Alberta—the slow takeover of a town by far-right municipal councillors, & the shuttering of its library, seemingly to prevent what they believe is the spread of “gender ideology.”

That our biggest newspaper chain is foreign owned was probably never a good idea. But as we face an erratic US president it becomes more urgent to ask:

If Postmedia needed to choose between what’s good for its American owners and what’s good for Canada, what would they choose? How would we know?
Nationalize Postmedia
…and then sell it. But we can’t let Americans own it anymore.

These allegations go from bad to worse.

Now they include that Minister of Health Adriana LaGrange deliberately interfered with the investigation into inflated contracts and took over their negotiations.

If true, this would be a cover up of one of the biggest political scandals Alberta has seen.

Why won't they acknowledge exactly what we all saw here?

As someone who worked in national newsrooms for years, let me explain why the media is allergic to meeting the moment in times like this.
