Burning wood indoors is not a good idea unless you are in a sauna or visiting a remote hut in cold conditions. Poor combustion worsens air quality in built areas.

This is also true in NZ, where woodburners and gas stoves/heat are extremely common, even in urban areas.

Any kind of residential combustion generates horrible pollution for surrounding communities, and open fireplaces and gas stoves inside houses are worst of all.
