I'm going to recreate a thread that I did on the other side with some of my project/trajectory as a Technical Game Designer in the games industry.

Need to update my portfolio with my contributions to this, but the time I spent at this project really made me reflect about what Tech Design truly is.

It helped a lot that my team put a lot of trust on me, and that I actually worked with another TD! (second one I met in my whole career lol).
16.- Unannounced shooter project

This was my first project at MPG, and I LOVE it to pieces. Probably my happiest time as a game dev ever, and my best work as a Tech Designer. The team is amazing, the game is amazing... In the future I'd love to talk more about it!

One of the things I'm noticing with GenAI is how consistent people are getting at lowering their quality bar and improving their skills on making excuses for stuff that is inadmisible in most jobs.

Feels exactly to what me and countless others did with our code practice deliveries during college.

If people don’t communicate their needs, issues, or triggers and hide things from you only to unleash them like a deluge that’s toxic as hell. You deserve people around you that will have those hard conversations, communicate clearly, and foster actual community. True friends grow together.

Not sure if it is a hot take or not, but I think Silksong difficulty is actually better balanced that Hollow Knight. The game actually trains you for all the challenges it offers, while the original HK just has a flatter curve overall, with a crazy spike for the true ending and DLCs

The idea that 'AI can speed up dev cycles' would require a premise that dev cycles are long because people are taking forever to make assets (so you could replace them with shoddy slop and it'd go faster), which you could only believe is true if you've never actually tried to make a video game

In my experience, content has never been the slowdown for making a game. It's lack of clarity/direction, changing minds, and outside stakeholder influence introducing trash. I fail to see how AI is going to solve that problem.
