I'm making comfort food because I'm lonely when husband is out of town.
Ham, corn, and golden potato casserole/funeral potatoes. Or, as my mom called them, simply "good potatoes."

A lactose-intolerant person's nightmare: Butter, cheese, sour cream, cream of chicken soup added to grated potatoes.

This is the year I finally buckle down and learn Blender.

I want to make my own little creatures and print them in resin and lovingly paint them.

Youtube is full of tutorials. That's where I'm starting. But if anyone has any suggestions for sculpting in Blender for a n00b, I'd love that.

Writers who advocate using genAI for covers and "nonessential" tasks are fuckin' traitors and not to be listened to.

"art is inaccessible/artists are gatekeepers" is the biggest self report in the world that whoever is saying it is, at best, buying in to incredibly tedious learned helplessness or, more likely, is just a huge fucking loser.
I don't believe it when anyone tries to say artists are gatekeeping creativity because every artist I know is so generous. Lots of us sharing tutorials, free brushes and assets, share our manus, etc! There's no shortage of info or free tools out there if you're willing to look and learn.

The American Federation of Teachers is teaming up with a company under investigation for promoting murder suicides whose product, which it admits is based on stolen work, has been used to create nudes and harass students. And kids are supposed to take ethics guidance from them. Ok!
We know students, like the rest of the world, are using AI. Teachers need to be equipped to deal w/all the issues AI creates. Our approach starts with maximizing safety & privacy and empowering educators to make educational decisions, so AI tools can benefit not harm www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-ne...
AI has become the norm for students. Teachers are playing catch-up.
At a New York City training session, educators explored how artificial intelligence could support teaching while also discussing their concerns around the technology.

Looking for an *L.A. based* artist who (against all odds) has time for a poster gig before the end of the year.

It's for a science + art event.

We can offer $500 for the gig.

Dreadfully sorry about the timeline. Link a portfolio if you're interested, I'll delete this post when we found someone.

#ArtAdventCalendar I missed a few days, but I'm still trying to participate. :)

#DigitalIllustration of a Christmas beetle. Some of them actually look metallic.
Based on an old pencil sketch from years ago.
I'm still trying to get used to the new layout of #Affinity, and liking it so far!

If you make a billion dollars — or $500 million or even $100 million dollars — and you keep trying to make more, then there is something seriously wrong with you. It's a mental illness akin to hoarding or drug addiction.

Share your knowledge if/when you can. Teaching other people how to do what you do doesn’t lessen your art - it just means more and better art for everyone.

I appreciate when people are willing to tell me about their brushes, how they study, etc… I want to put that back out into the world.

#ArtAdventCalendar

This is an older one, made about this time of year, when Autumn is transitioning into Winter.

There are mushrooms, acorns, and those little cones/catkins that trees like alders drop.

#TraditionalArt using ink, chalk pastel, and colored pencils on toned paper. About 4"x6" iirc.

Another #DigitalPainting! This time it's a raccoon.
When I started this, there were still leaves on the ground instead of snow.

Started in #Rebelle 8 and finished in #Affinity.

Jumping in on the #ArtAdventCalendar on Day 4 and hoping to participate a little more.

I definitely won't remember to do an #ArtAdventCalendar every day, but here's a harlequin beetle (Acrocinus longimanus) drawing. It's a classic example of me spend far, far too long drawing details that are imperceptible in the final image.

Got a big metal rack for paper, for free, from a local shop!

It only holds up to letter size papers, but I have plans to use it for drying/storing smaller painted projects like smaller watercolor pieces, greeting cards, & lino cut prints.

So I'm reorganizing my entire art room to make it work.

US customers: contrary to what you might have heard, art and books from the UK are still TARIFF-FREE! Plus, all import duties are pre-paid by me, so you WON’T have to pay any extra!
It’s proving hard to get this message out there, so if you could please repost this. 🙏

Just got back from the UK.

It made me appreciate the dry Utah air.
I was welcomed home to light switches and kitchen appliances giving me static electric shocks all day and I still appreciate not having everything be constantly damp.

But sea level sure felt good to breathe.

As a kid, I was taught that Columbus was guided by god, his actions part of prophecy (in the Book of Mormon). Apparently the Book of Mormon was written during a time when America was really into him.

There was a lot of untangling of gross religious assertions from the actual history when I left.
