I first scraped BTS fics on AO3 back in January 2021, just as i was starting to read it, and the data sat unpublished on my hard drive until now! Here it's allowing a perfect natural experiment on how fanfic gain hits and kudos with age, back in early 2021 (red) and late 2025 (blue).
A recent question in the BTS fandom is whether readers are engaging as they once did. Comparing 1/1 Ch works sampled in 2021 and 2025, engagement per work is similar, even if the totals differ, and none can catch up to fics from 2016-2018. Full analysis:

How do people think about Taehyung's "Ugly" aesthetic? While capable at being beautiful, he often leans into the messy, the asymmetrical, showing features and proportions that go against idealised standards. Lots of photographers go for "interesting" over pretty but i think there is more to it.

I've been quiet because I'm visiting family but I'm prepping a thing on BTS on AO3. Fics over time, ships over time, engagement in 2022 vs 2025, and new authors in the anticipation of the comeback, something on WIPs. If you have other questions, i might be able to answer them.

It is EXHAUSTING not only being made responsible for coming up with new kinds of assignments for our students; it's also tedious reading op-eds that suggest the core problem is a crisis in teaching. But, as Chris and I lay out here, this isn't a crisis in teaching; it's an attack on learning.

It is EXHAUSTING not only being made responsible for coming up with new kinds of assignments for our students; it's also tedious reading op-eds that suggest the core problem is a crisis in teaching. But, as Chris and I lay out here, this isn't a crisis in teaching; it's an attack on learning.
