Our time with the Dolly cargo bike has come to an end. I want to thank Pat @pfitzp.bsky.social (@limerickecargobike on X) for letting us trial the bike.
The end result?
We're all in. Moving the kids via cargo bike is a no brainer.

Limerick Heritage Week Cycle Tour is a free event starting this Sunday(the 17th) at noon from in front Colbert Train Station.

Will take about an hour and be a casual pace with lots of stops so all ages and abilities welcome.

Horrendous. RIP

This is the second cyclist death in 2 days. Plus several hit & runs.

Whats going on our roads? I went for a cycle today & seen all sorts of crazy behavior: speeding, close passes, phone use. It’s all just standard now, not challenged, anything goes, no road policing, no enforcement

A very good summary by @farronf.bsky.social of a very bad updated plan.
Car dominance has destroyed #LimerickCity for all but a few and this exact imbalance is clear in the (ignored) feedback.

📖I wrote an article about the Market Quarter public realm upgrades in #Limerick and how the updated plans ignore key public feedback from the initial consultation, or worse, go against it.

It's a 5 minute read, so check it out.

#Limerick The Market Quarter and Cruise's Street public realm upgrades have gone to Part 8 after a non-statutory event earlier this year🎉

And... It's pretty underwhelming. And very disappointing given their own "You Said We Heard" report. Lets dig into it a bit🧵

Social Democrat Cllr “completely opposed” to cycle route claiming it’s a “new scheme” when project follows planning condition set by councillors
-- Councillor claims project is "unworkable", but council officials said it aligns with national guidance. A Social Democrats councillor has taken to Facebook and the local media in Limerick to spread inaccurate claims about a contentious cycle route in Limerick City. The councillor, Cllr Elisa O'Donovan, claimed that the South Circular Road project is a "new proposal" when the design of the active travel route is in keeping with planning conditions set by councillors, …

Look at the car trip percentages.

26% of car trips cross the river.

Three quarters of car journeys do NOT cross the Corrib.

Modal shift, within existing constraints, would significantly ease congestion.

We need new thinking. Light Rail. Greenways. Safe travel to school.

#Galway Ring Road: I’ve now read through the updated Traffic Modelling Report submitted by @GalwayCoCo
to ABP. And I’m more convinced than ever that this project cannot be justified in its current form.🧵

#Limerick I've made a searchable archive of all public meeting minutes + agendas from Limerick City & County Council.

Official records are hard to navigate — this repository makes them searchable and accessible.

This is an extremely bad decision. The combination of e-bikes and public transport makes all of the capital accessible to many more people, reducing the need for car ownership. Banning them is the wrong reaction to a very small number of issues.
This is why, following a comprehensive review of the safety of e-bikes, TfL is banning all non-folding e-bikes on tube and rail services. I have asked TfL to continue to work with government and partners to improve e-bike safety as we build a safer London for everyone. (2/3)

This is an Active Travel scheme in name only, it is really a Revitalisation opportunity that must not be missed 16/17

Bit crazy for something to get left like this in the city centre #Limerick bits of wood with screws and nails sticking out and all.

Saw two people cross the road and walk through it. Stupid on their part yes but should never be left like that

This answers the question of how you can build cycle paths alongside rural main roads without getting rid of the existing heades and trees:
Avant (2018) / Après (2024) la piste cyclable le long de la départementale à Castres. Ses 700 mètres n'ont rien couté aux collectivités, la piste ayant été réalisée en 2020 par une filiale d'EDF pour compenser la gêne des travaux d'installation d'une ligne haute tension.

Are these lads having a laugh? The people "subverting the constitution" (haha!) are the government TDs refusing to sit on government benches! The government is holding *itself* to ransom. What a shower. (via @jenniferbray.bsky.social)
