COMMENTARY: People are struggling to pay bills. Some can’t find child care, leaving them unable to work to make ends meet. And what are lawmakers doing to help with these issues? They’re worrying about what’s in your kitchen cabinets, writes @leannray.bsky.social.

Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.

Everyone get your surprised faces ready for when they claim the gold is “mysteriously gone” & the social security trust funds are “mysteriously empty.”
Elon Musk has now set his sights on the U.S. gold reserves at Fort Knox, insisting on personally ensuring the gold remains intact. The vault was last opened to journalists and a congressional delegation in 1974.

social media has been mostly a distraction for at least the last decade and convincing people that it's where the "war is being waged" was a coup for the tech industry and oligarchs long before musk bought twitter
Leaving Twitter at this juncture is a tactical error. BlueSky is more like a sanctuary and needed. But the war is being waged on Twitter and ceding grounds makes little sense.

Our parks are in chaos. We’ve seen firsthand how Trump’s hiring freeze, the rescinding of hundreds of job offers, and the layoff of 5% of NPS staff have left us overwhelmed and short-handed.

Incompetence in Washington puts every American at risk, no matter how you voted. No one should be happy that the DOGE team - the same folks who randomly published classified U.S. security information online today - wants access to your bank account & Social Security numbers.

I feel like people don’t understand how bad this abortion fight is about to get or how far into poverty a forced pregnancy can sink a person.

What will end up happening is using low income people as breeders to provide children for white evangelicals.

That domestic supply of infants.

Demolishing it will, of course, lead to more waste, fraud, and abuse.

people would rise up in fury over the idea of the state taking a person’s house or car and giving it to another private citizen, but they don’t bat an eye at the state’s doing this with “undeserving” people’s children.

This is the reality that liberals and conservatives have built in the USA. 🥚
