New @vinsyn.bsky.social arrivals are always exciting, but this month's are especially so because my essay for THE WAIT is here too! Thanks again to @jlalibs.com and @filmmovement.bsky.social for this opportunity!
Age limits, term limits, the same health insurance systems the rest of us use... endlessly frustrating that implementing these common sense limitations on Congress requires Congress itself to approve them.

They don't have to face reelection, but they should be harassed whenever they show their faces in public for the rest of their lives.
The fact that none of the 8 Dems are up for re-election in 2026 is a pretty good sign @schumer.senate.gov engineered the surrender

Oh the FSAs.
The FSAs where you have to pay and get reimbursed.
So you're paying twice.
And have to keep track of receipts and take time to apply.
And assume you'll get the reimbursement from the federal offices they gutted.
And the reimbursement doesn't include the taxes you paid.

Those FSAs?
"A development that appeared to break the logjam: Republicans proposed that healthcare funding be provided directly to households rather than used to pay for a 1-year extension of ACA subsidies. That involves sending federal money into FSAs instead of insurance companies" www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
Republicans Pitch Alternative to ACA Extension to End Government Shutdown
A proposal by GOP senators to send money directly to consumers’ health accounts rather than to insurance companies showed signs of breaking a stalemate on negotiations.

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

The Senate exists for the same reason that the ACA doesn't have a public option: it was negotiated to placate the necessary votes. Slave states were nervous about being beholden to public will so we massively over-elevated state representation. www.law.cornell.edu/constitution...

My beloved MISTER FROST is finally getting a disc release... and it's jumping straight to 4K UHD! Terrifically devilish slow burn with a creepily mad turn by Jeff Goldblum.

One of my kids used to work at a Major Grocery Store deli, and they all rang up hot foods as cold for SNAP recipients.
If you work in a deli and can do this without losing your job, please do so.
Most people don’t know that with SNAP you are banned from buying “foods that are hot at the point of sale”. So even if you have SNAP (which people don’t now) you can’t get cooked food. Which means you need to also actually have the resources to PREPARE a “healthy” meal.
Thinking about the social stigma against eating fast food in a country where poor people are being starved by the govt, the cost of groceries and fresh vegetables are astronomical, and a cheeseburger at McDonald’s costs $3.50.

“Clean” and “healthy” eating rhetoric is racist, ableist, and classist.

Haven't seen BADLANDS or the animated one yet, but this is where I stand.

(Still maintain there are no truly bad ones, although THE PREDATOR comes close...)

I'm having a hard time placing my WICKED: FOR GOOD review, so to the masses I go: I have forgotten more about the play and novel than most people will ever know to begin with, and I would be a huge asset to your outlet.

I'll happily pub on my own, of course, but being paid is also nice!

NEWS — The Oregon Department of Human Services has issued 100% of November SNAP benefits, per an alert on their website. I've received reports that the funds have already hit recipients' EBT accounts.

Dreamt that Daniel Day-Lewis and Jonathan Bailey were staying with us and that we were running late for a dinner reservation at Medieval Times.

I had lost my phone, Day-Lewis was giggling because he had hidden it, and Bailey was personalizing our guest room because he feared his 15 minutes were up.

Wild that, of all the Republicans, it's Greene who sees the writing on the wall. Still a fucking ghoul, but maybe not as dumb as I thought!

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video.

I don’t know how we’ve gotten to the point where men in full balaclavas can abduct daycare teachers while they’re watching children.

But I do know that this isn’t sustainable. Abolish ICE. There is no way to reform this.

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

Kicked off my November movie-watching on the 1st with a rewatch -- probably my tenth -- of John Carpenter's first masterpiece, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13. It remains the epitome of cool perfection.
