Disappointed to see Jon Stewart & co joke about masking in public. I do it for my medically fragile daughter (Batten Disease). People not masking properly led to her getting pneumonia, which led to her being on life support, which led to me getting price quotes on her cremation just in case.

I sometimes wonder why we don’t apply a “case by case analysis” to copyright on an international scale, which mirrors the US court system
The issue with copyright is that it covers everything from 'the mechanism which means corporations theoretically have to pay artists if they want to adapt their work' to 'the thing that makes it illegal for countries to manufacture their own vaccines' and that's plainly absurd.
Idk who needs to hear this but copyright is a rent-seeking mechanism of capitalism that is literally holding humanity back and primarily benefits large corporations.

can someone recommend me a person to talk to in the fields of either neuroscience or AI development that are familiar with both? I have so many interesting questions about how the brain works differently and similarly to LLMs/other ML models and have no one to talk to about this lol

too many democrats are seeing this Trump term as the worst things can get, when in reality it could just be the setup for a *true* dictator. Trump has the kind of charisma needed to “shatter norms” and “erode institutions” but not the kind that can command true totalitarianism. but someone else can.

I'll add that as someone who not that long ago spent many frantic nights looking for information on sleep training, feeding, etc etc--by far the most valuable internet resource was reddit, the only place with human advice. Everything else is basically useless at this point.
This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.
