Hey! It is out now for all to play! itch.io/jam/dosember... — please also check out the other DOStember Game Jam entries :)
Raycast voxel landscape engines tend to be one height map and one texture map (tiled or otherwise). But is there one that instead of a texture map that has a texture # map? For example, you could have a 16 color one where each color refers to a different texture.

Great example of pseudo 3d technique in the 70s. I am guessing this is an analog effect.

What is the #Commodore64 game with the most complex disk copy protection or format?

Doing some quick refactoring 😅

I felt about Prime 3 the way a lot of the haters feel about 4 right now. It had like Halo dudes all over the first part and they’re central to the plot.

But after I really gave it a shot on its own terms, almost 20 years later, it turned out to be really cool. Every Prime has its own thing.

I think Prime 4 is great so far. It’s probably better than 3 already. I still need to finish 2, but so far I’m thinking it might end up 1 > 2 > 4 > 3

oh no I used AI generated stone textures for my DOS game

forgive me

but the granite generator from 1997

does not talk

I could not know
I'm starting to think a lot of people think AI is whenever the computer does something.

I went back and forth between a loading screen a few times and then it stuck there for about 3 minutes :D At first I thought it was an homage to Prime 1’s bug which is the same.

Dunno why it took so long. Maybe I got it to dump some enormous cache 🤷

Speaking of Open World, is Metroid 4 really open world if you can’t summon the bike in super weird places and totally break everything?
December 22, 2025 at 6:38 PM
Open world games are *already* slop

Somehow the mall arcade never seemed to get shmups, aside from early on when they had Xevious. They’d get run n guns though. My shmup love was solidified on Amiga instead, with games like Sidewinder and Battle Squadron.

I wonder what the rate is of STEM grads falling for wellness scams vs. other disciplines.

The dotcom era was 25 years ago. iPhone launch was 18. This means there are now adults whose only “big tech hype cycle” memory is crypto/NFTs.

This is why many draw a connection between AI and crypto as scam bubbles. They missed the hype cycles that were also real, disruptive, and world-changing

When you see someone with Alzheimer’s/strokes it reinforces the idea that we’re just a bag of neurons because you see the person losing pieces of themselves. I don’t know what the spark is that makes us experience this all as an integrated experience/free will, but what makes us “us” is physical.

Walker is a very cool shooter by DMA Design (Lemmings, GTA) that unfortunately doesn’t quite reach its potential and is overly long. But it’s got a heavy dark atmosphere, unique setting, all kinds of radio chatter, and gleeful destruction.

An indie game based on this concept could be amazing.

My favorite Daytona USA iteration. I got the 360 one and was initially stoked that it was the first port that was completely faithful to the arcade, but I found myself missing so much from Daytona 2001.

It’ll always be weird though that we never got the Daytona 2 or Super GT tracks in it.
Daytona USA 2001 released 25 years ago! (12/21/00)

A remaster of Sega's seminal 1994 classic, Daytona USA, Daytona 2001 brings together the cream of the franchise's crop, combining tracks and cars from across the series, alongside customization options and NetPlay, making for a hefty racing package

I miss custom game engines, and I miss videogame music made in actual music formats by turbonerds.

Either Prime 4 isn’t too hand holdy or you play too many Metroidvanias because I’m finding it more difficult than 3 at least

Keeping the 2600 going this #RandomGameSaturday is Aardvark, the best iteration on the Anteater/Oil’s Well theme and a somewhat recent homebrew by @nanochess.bsky.social. It has a great scoring system and animation in addition to the solid gameplay of its inspiration.
