The Eye of the World 🛞 Where Epic Fantasy Truly Begins
Few books define the phrase “epic fantasy” quite like The Eye of the World. As the first instalment in Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series, it’s a sprawling, richly built adventure that draws heavily from Tolkien-esque roots while forging its own intricate mythos. It’s a book of immense scope and one that feels like stepping into an entire world rather than simply reading a story.

My current read, and one I had intended to get to in 2025, but never got around to it. I started it last night and gobbled up the first half of it. It's a short book, about 200 pages, but it's quite interesting. #booksky 💡📚💙

Exactly. Not every book, show, song, etc will appeal to everyone, but that's what makes us individuals. I have absolutely hated some books that other people love, but that means the book wasn't for me, and I'm glad others loved it.

Exactly. No one will love every book they read, and that's okay, but pointing out how "bad" a book was is not cool.

I did consider putting a 'Doesn't apply to AI slop' at the end, but for some silly reason, I left that out.

Book Review: A Language of Dragons – S. F. Williamson
In a world where humans and dragons live side by side, the terms of their coexistence governed by a peace agreement, protests break out on the streets of London. Vivien Featherswallow isn't too concerned - after all, she's following all the rules and doing everything right, studying dragon tongues in order to eventually get a coveted internship. But when her parents are arrested for being rebels, she takes a desperate step that ends up starting a civil war. To save her family, Viv agrees to a mysterious job at Bletchley Park for the government - a top secret codebreaking effort is underway and if she can succeed, she and her family can all go home. It all seems quite straightforward at first, discovering the workings of a secret dragon language that will help them win the war, but as she begins to learn more about the truth of the world she lives in, the class system and the real meaning behind the hidden language, she grows increasingly doubtful about the work she is doing, and whether she is even on the right side of this war.

It's been a busy day, but I just completed the most important task and that was renewing my library card.

I just set my alarm for tomorrow morning. I really enjoyed sleeping in for the last two weeks, but tomorrow we go back to early mornings. I'm not a fan, but such is life. Going to read until bedtime and hope I survive when that infernal beeping wakes me.

Tonight's family movie night was Fantastic Voyage (1966). It was pretty good, though I feel as though it lacks a conclusion to the reason behind 95% of the movie.

Thanks. I'm quite proud with how they turned out.

It's been a busy day. Made more freezer meals with the remainder of the turkey I cooked the other day, took down the Christmas tree, cleaned the living room, did several loads of laundry, and continued to slowly reorganize my bookshelves.

Are you thinking about a pasty? Because yes, they are fairly similar in concept.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

A bit of a baking experiment today. We picked up a discounted turkey the other day and cooked it yesterday. Now, I am making turkey pockets. Think pizza pockets, but inside is turkey, stuffing, and a bit of gravy. They are so good! Going to make a bunch and put them in the freezer for future meals.

It's that time again when I share my favorite reads of 2025.
As usual, I've cheated. I have my top 10 already-released books, but I've also added two that come out early next year and should be pre-ordered by everyone. I'm a rebel like that.

Operation 2025: Success! (Or Favorite Books I Read this Year)
Is it just me, or does it feel like the last five years have been one long continuation of 2020? It’s been a strange year full of the ups and downs that make up life. To be honest, I’m …

I'm happy to say that of the 118 books I read in 2025, 51 of them were borrowed from the library. Additionally, I read 43 new-to-me authors over the course of the year, the majority of which came from my library loans.

Wait. How did I miss that there are 2 books for World of Warcraft: The War Within that have been out for quite some time? AND the World of Warcraft: Midnight: Blood Ties book is already out? Oh man, I know what books will likely be my first purchases of the year.
