69% of Britons would support the introduction of graduated driving licences, whereby new drivers would be restricted from driving in certain conditions, as a new campaign is launched by MPs and bereaved families in favour of them

Support: 69%
Oppose: 21%

Both the Budget and the asylum bill are disintegrating before they've even been formally announced.

Absolutely dead government.

Really not convinced the BBC should be providing blanket anonymity to campaigners who want to stop a school being built because of “concerns about being publicly critical of East Dunbartonshire Council”. It’s a local authority, not the Mafia. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Unless someone in the Treasury reassures the markets pretty soon, there’s every chance the UK will need to raise *more* tax for less in return. Total clusterfuck in the making, this.

Having a budget fall apart more than a week before it’s actually be delivered might be a new record.

What is the actual fucking point of Starmer and Reeves? Why have they wasted their own and everyone’s time doing absolutely nothing with the two roles which are specifically empowered to make the hard choices needed for the betterment of the country?

If Labour have caved on income tax rises they are fucked. You cannot deliver meaningful change without cash. Broad base tax rises are the simplest, and fairest, way to do that. This is criminal levels of stupidity.

“We don’t want to do things that antagonize Labour MPs and voters”.

Guys that ship sailed. That ship disappeared over the horizon. That ship is docking in New Zealand.

You have 400 seats. Just do the policy that makes sense. Stop running away from shadows.

Labour making it increasingly unlikely I even vote tactically for them next election ffs.
Literally what is the point when they do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in government.

If a core plank of my messaging was “you can’t replace me, it’ll scare the markets”, I simply would not throw out by far the biggest revenue raiser less than two weeks before a Budget where I need to find tens of billions of pounds

Also I swear we are somehow into month three of pre-briefing for this budget, how have they drawn out the process this long, why does everything have to be so exhausting.

It’s tantric politics, assuming absolutely everyone hates tantra.

The good thing about u-turning on tax rises before you ever do them is you get most of the popularity for considering the hike, some bonus popularity for looking incompetent and indecisive, AND none of the revenue

What you have to understand is that Labour had to make the tax pledge so they would win a majority of 500 instead of 80, which was essential so they could…????

What is wrong with these people. They just spent two weeks rolling the pitch for a U-turn on a policy they didn’t even do yet?

Just raise income tax! Basic and higher rates!

And if you want to minimise salary sacrifice/pension dumping, bring down the 45p band to £80/90k and scrap the personal allowance withdrawal. It’ll raise more and might even be popular.

There were 115 prisoners mistakenly released in the final year of the last Conservative Government alone.

Interesting that it only becomes a major national scandal the second these releases can be blamed on a Labour government
