If you want the asylum system to work:
1) Explain what it's for
2) Explain why it's necessary
3) Make it efficient

Making it more difficult and punitive without doing any of this simply creates resistance - more people asking why we have it at all.

Is this gonna be the week the regime falls?

Possible. But it still doesn't feel quite ripe enough.

We could be immortals.

But not for long.

You had a huge parliamentary majority. You could have done anything and the right wing press could do nothing in return but seethe. You had ages for the policies to show themselves good.

And you decided the hill you would die on was targeting immigrants.

Every time I hear a politician say that an issue is “dividing” this country they always then come down on the side of the right wing view of it. Just once I’d love to hear someone say “this issue is divisive, which is why I’m making the argument that kindness and compassion is important”

A trillion dollars...

Suppose Tesla sells a billion cars from now on.

(It can't)

Then in effect EVERY one sold would have a $1000 overhead to be paid straight to Musk.

I would rather not give him the money. I imagine most people are the same.
And yet the man presiding over this has been offered a trillion dollar pay packet, not sacked. The rich always fail upwards.
Tesla's car biz (worth only $78 per share vs Tesla's current price of $402) is imploding.

Overseas sales in Oct were -33%, the lowest start of Q4 sales on record.

US EV sales at carmakers reporting monthly sales were -71% MoM & -49% YoY after Sept EV rush.

I would love someone who really understood government finances to be in charge of government. It might at least fix something.

If The Times had written 1m more on Universal Credit with no requirements to work they would be correct – because 1m people have been moved from the old Working Tax Credits and Employment Support Allowance to UC.

1m more "on benefits" is WRONG

The shutdown was a Republican shutdown. It's a feature of right wing praxis that they set up "Heads I win. Tails you lose" scenarios. They expected you to be mad with the Dems who folded.

Small scale thing, but similar with salad bowls at the supermarket. They seem to have shrunk and increased in price. Fine, I'll do my own big batch - fresh pasta, jar of sundried tomatoes, bag of baby spinach, parmesan, pine nuts. Next time I'll add basil and garlic.

Dunno if I saved, but tasty!
The restaurant where I order my poke bowl changed their ingredients and upped the price. So I get less fresh food, more ultra processed crap, AND I have to pay more for that 🙄

So fine, I bought everything I need to make them now because fuck that shit

Like $25 for a rice bowl like come on

Whistleblowers need protection, but if your actions bring the organisation you represent into disrepute or damage its interests, you have an ethical obligation to stand down.

Leaking an internal memo to a hostile media organisation is the latter.

When people move past positive and negative, they get to "destructive". Government can no longer assume people will behave in a predictable way.
I no longer give a shit about the White House. Tear it all down because it has been infected with you sick, weak souls. The stench will forever remain.
Control & Greed. That’s what this world revolves around. Those that supposedly work for us proved last night they are no different. 🖕🖕🖕

People calling out the players. That's a start.
Trump and his cronies have the BBC in their sights. Leaders can’t stay silent while one of our great institutions is attacked.

We must defend its independence, end political appointments, and remove Robbie Gibb from the Board.
November 10, 2025 at 6:45 PM
$1bn for reputational damage, when nobody noticed for over a year except some right wing stooges? When the damage only became apparent when a memo was leaked? And suing in Florida which cuts off later on where I'm betting they'll struggle to find ANYONE whose view of Trump was affected by a UK show?

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

Not rocket science.
Dear GOD if you want to save money in the asylum system

1. LET ASYLUM SEEKERS WORK

2. FAST TRACK STATUS FOR EVERYONE FROM CLEARLY UNDAFE COUNTRIES like Sudan, Syria, etc

3. Run an asylum accommodation system that is NOT FOR PROFIT #r4today
