we’re going to use facts and reason to stop Trump from attacking us lol

I know it’s a difficult position to be in as an individual tasked with making decisions, but most of our elected leaders are just not suited for this new era.

Chicago beat Trump by bullying him away. That’s the game plan.

It’s so important to loudly claim our victories! Read about our recent success in keeping a Portland police union from joining our local labor council on the national Bread & Roses blog:

Grassroots organizing stopped the admission of a Portland, Oregon, police union to the local labor council.

This is one of the most embarrassing and stupid moves by a labor leader in a long time… who is going to take Randi’s job? Time to unseat her!
Today we launched the National Academy for AI Instruction with UFT, Microsoft, OpenAI & Anthropic to offer free, high-quality AI training to educators. Some of you have expressed legitimate reservations about AI and tech companies. I want to speak to you directly. 🧵

It is WILD to watch a supposedly public agency spread disinformation to get a whole community worked up and protect their own bottom line.

Prosper Portland is sitting on a $50m slush fund that they did not earn and want Portland to cut parks maintenance and permitting staff.

Wild.

It’s hard to know for sure until something solid is unearthed, but it certainly seems likely that the administration is working together or is at least informed by these organizations.

And that is deeply disturbing. If it is the case, then they are giving these radical groups incredible power.
Pro-Israel groups called for Mohsen Mahdawi’s deportation. He was arrested at a citizenship interview.
“As we said,” Betar tweeted as the news of Mahdawi’s arrest broke.

Once a dozen or so more major institutions figure out that courage is currently the same as informed self-interest, I think we’ll have a real widespread noncompliance movement on our hands.

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

Not trying to rain on anyone’s parades… (great turnout yesterday… that’s good) but we have once again mobilized without organizing. What is the next step? How does someone newly politicized get connected to your work? Did you get any contact information? Did anyone learn about your theory of change?

Seeing thousands of federal workers being fired without cause in the U.S. & wondering what on earth their unions are doing? Puzzled why there is not a ballot for strike action? Labour protections there are weakened to the point where it’s a *felony* for a federal employee to engage in strike action.
I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

Well, I injured both of my hands, ripped a hole in my jeans, but at least I put a screw through the front of the headboard because I didn’t have all the tools I needed to set up the second wayfair bed I bought to replace the one that came without hardware. All’s well that ends well I guess.
