For goodness sake give it a rest. I understand that MPs were very happy indeed to hear what the PM said this evening . Can we hear more about that rather than this unforgivable gossip.

Lets call it as it is..

MSM worked tirelessly to undermine Labour & Starmer since the Election ❌
They’ve been promoting Farage & Reform daily, Reform has just 6 MPs but BBC had them on multiple times over LibDems with 72 MPs❌
Tories scandal after scandal & got kid gloves❌

Starmer facing Labour MPs after cabinet ministers back PM to stay in office
Support from Starmer's team came as Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar called on the PM to resign, saying

Feels politics in Britain is going mad. BBC headline “PM is not resigning” about a good man who won a landslide 18 months ago, because of an American sleazeball he’s never met & a liar who persuaded people *across the political spectrum* he was the right man for Washington ambassador. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Know what the public are really fed up of? Posts like this from politicians.

Not a fan of this either. The vote shift towards the Lib Dems in the last election was about hope and positivity. This negative campaigning undermines that selling point.

But is he keeping a watchful eye on his media team? Or are they off on their own path?

Me too . I am. Lib Dem but not liking this tone of Ed Davey at all. Is he in control of this account?

Really going off your social media Ed. We need stability not a return to Tory soap opera politics. Thought you were better and wiser than this.

Alison Peacock was well worth listening to! Always pleased to see her face at training events and conferences.

Ah well. We can probably agree the weather is not very conducive to gardening just now. Everywhere is very soggy.

But you don’t actually know? We mostly hear from those who want AB to stand so he can challenge KS for PM. A local party might prefer an MP who would be focussed on local matters and might easily be pressured by a big beast.
January 28, 2026 at 6:58 PM
I did see that. Were the local party in the seat requesting Burnham as their candidate? I genuinely don’t know and haven’t seen anything to say they were?. It seems that most of those calling loudly for him to stand were not local party members.
January 27, 2026 at 8:55 PM
Well the alternative would be to ask everyone in Greater Manchester whether they would rather keep AB as mayor or let him stand as an MP. before deciding. Assuming the shouty voices represent majority opinion isn’t democracy.

So please don't sulk? If you take a choice that has consequences that you might well have expected, maybe need to live with the outcome without guilt tripping.

But democracy includes giving elected officials decision making powers. Impossible to decide everything by plebiscite. So elected members of NEC decided by a large majority not to let him stand - thats democracy in operation too isn’t it.
January 25, 2026 at 7:06 PM
My bad - its not just standard practice its a rule. For good reason, but sensibly, if there are even better reasons for suspending the rule the NEC can do that. Greens would behave the same way whoever was standing.

Exactly this. Perhaps burnham should try it at the next election. Finish his mayoralty and let the party get on with government.
January 25, 2026 at 4:10 PM
Maybe because he had already accepted and was committed to a different role? Maybe destabilising Manchester wasn’t a good idea?
January 25, 2026 at 4:49 PM
Yes. Show he can see a project through and work in the interests of the people he serves. Then he would be a powerful figure indeed.
Bet he gets away with it because he looks like a sad Labrador!
January 25, 2026 at 4:16 PM
Was it cowardly? Seems to me it is brave to take a decision in the interests of your country when you know lots of people will delight in misinterpreting your decision. Really not the time for needlessly reverting to political drama.
January 25, 2026 at 4:03 PM
He wasn’t eligible unless the NEC decided there was an exceptional reason for diverging from their standard practice of not allowing elected mayors to stand. They didn’t, so he isn’t eligible. He is not a free agent because he has already accepted a different role.
January 25, 2026 at 4:00 PM
Can’t agree. Have you considered that this decision was bravely made by a group of people who knew their motives would be misrepresented but they did it anyway because stability and continuity are currently more important than popularity contests?
January 25, 2026 at 1:26 PM
I really don’t understand why it is undemocratic. Some people are not eligible to stand for election for wide variety of reasons both good and bad.
Anyway had the relevant local group even said they wanted Burnham to stand? (Genuinely don’t know)
January 25, 2026 at 1:18 PM
I think you are mistaken, either by lack of understanding or because you have your own agenda. Did you notice for example that KS has just got Trump to backtrack on his negative comments about UK soldiers in Afghanistan?
January 25, 2026 at 1:15 PM
Or it is the action of a group of people who put the good of the country first even though they know they will get stick for it. Good test of AB’s genuine concern for country to see how he reacts. Stability more valuable than superman currently.
