Struggling to make peace with a world that makes no sense. https://lunarfish.github.io/wealthscales Everyone needs 1 home. No-one needs 2. If you're not a socialist, you're either a sociopath or an idiot.

A reminder to the media and others trying to claim this Government and Starmer are worse than anything they've ever seen, a Government which has only been in power for 19 months. Here's a handly list of the scandals we had to endure from the Tories between 2011-2024.

What's the deal with most of tiktok being backwards. It's really weird seeing right handed people playing guitar left handed and pianos with the high notes at the wrong end?

It's been raining for so long there's a guy in the street trying to round up 2 of every animal outside a Jewson's.

Why are so many robotics stories seemingly about creating sex-bots? Aren't robots supposed to save us from monotonous repetitive tasks? If there was ever a case for leaving some aspects of life to the humans... Source: Interesting Engineering

I know it can't actually be very long but the apprentice trail on #6music seems to go on forever.

@djdebgrant.bsky.social #6music I feel like this gorillaz song sounds a lot like another gorillaz song - maybe melancholy hill. It feels like time travel.

Just saw an advert for the new series of the apprentice (UK) Arguably the origin of all this geopolitical shit-storm. I wonder if anyone looked out the window and wondered whether making a new series was that good of an idea.

Just heard a term I'd not come across before that feels like it explains a lot of how shitty everything has become: "retail politics".

If they made a contemporary Mary Poppins what would Burt's down to earth profession be and what would the song be about.. I'm imagining something where you work from home riding a laptop and a song about how often you have to reconfigure your teams audio settings.

I need to be pro more things. At the moment I feel like I'm almost entirely defined by things I'm anti and that feels very negative. What causes should I be advocating for?

Listening to the Reith lectures. Really interesting. I've never understood why morality would need a religious component. Morality to me is just a natural, logical consequence of being a herd animal rather than a solitary predator species.

It'll be lonely this Christmas

Lonely .. but mild
It'll be unseasonably mild

The thing I always think about this is fiction based in reality anaethetises you into accepting the world can only be as it is. Fantasy and sci-fi allow you to imagine the world could be different. Both imagining the future we're sleep-walking into and the better one we're failing to create.
Maybe today is the day we also have a conversation about the word “genre” and how a lot of horror is better than the stuff that gets counted as “real cinema” and a lot of SFF writing is higher quality literature than some of the shit publishers call “literary fiction”

Stop being snobby shits

Let's build data centres instead of houses
Let's defund public services instead of taxing riches
Let's destroy rivers for shareholder dividends
Let's replace experts and facts with AI and probability
Let's build concentration camps for immigrants
Let's ignore any laws that get in the way
Let's not!

Not sure who takes life advice from Johnny Depp's sausage perfume adverts but I feel like some of them might die on safari.

It's funny (depressing) that Isaac Asimov and then Star wars taught us that when we invented robots they would be adorable and childlike but now, thanks to a few damaged and insecure rich arseholes, they'll most likely be randy, misogynistic racists.

When I first joined here there was a lot of "there is no algorithm" and "we are the algorithm". I have no idea what that means but empirically it seems to involve my discover feed containing quite a few naked men in their bathroom photos. I'm not sure what I've done to achieve this.
