An impromptu thread (thank you @bantiarna.bsky.social!) of my reading recommendations for those of you who are Shinsengumi fans in particular or curious about the Bakumatsu (late Edo) period in general.
Conrad Totman's "The Collapse of the Tokugawa Bakufu" is one of the major texts that's always referenced. Jansen's book which you read is another. There's also Harry Harootunian's "Toward Restoration," Yates' "Saigo Takamori" and Mark Ravina's Saigo book "The Last Samurai"

riichi mahjong is really easy. all you need to do is remember that you're collecting sequential (1-2-3) or identical (3-3-3) sets of three. from there you simply apply a five hundred page rulebook to determine if you lose and by how much

ok! hello! i'm reasonably confident this is mostly functional now. it works like sites like fxtwitter and so on for making nicer, more useful embed cards for social media and chat programs... but for your fanfiction recs ;) tell your friends!
