I was sad to learn of Michael Parenti’s passing. He wrote an introduction for the 2008 issue of To Topos — a poetry journal I edited and produced. The special issue focused on the theme of Poverty and Poetry.

Sad to learn of Michael Parenti's passing. He wrote an introduction to a poetry journal I edited and produce on Poverty and Poetry in 2008. He and I exchanged a dozen or so emails and spoke on the phone once or twice. He was the real deal. So kind. Rest in power.

Ta-Nehisi Coates, in convo with Ezra Klein, said, “We are losing because there are always moments when we lose.” Then this.

I wish I could be this penetrating & eloquent on history. I can’t be, because of who I am from. But it’s a call to never look away, never excuse, always find hard honesty.

James Humbert Craig's paintings exemplify his simple golden rule to: ‘never try to improve on nature.' This work 'Flax Growing in Northern Ireland,' (1927) is pretty well a fantasia of billowing clouds and verdant landscape.
