And just a reminder, there is legal US precedent from 2012 for the government killing Americans via drone strike. That was overseas, but still a precedent set that the Trump admin can now cite.
The new DOJ memo for implementing NSPM-7 calls for bounties and a network of informants: “FBI shall establish a cash reward system for information... [and] establish cooperators to provide information and eventually testify against other members and leadership of domestic terrorist organizations.”

The Trump administration ignored questions about whether it would order the killings of those on its NSPM-7 list — even while answering our other queries.

“This is scary. It’s adding to the vigilante state we live in.”

Texas' anti-trans bathroom bill went into effect December 4. Here's how the state government could weaponize this new law against public institutions, from libraries to prisons:
How the Bathroom Bill Weaponizes Transphobia Against Public Institutions
A legal expert called the new anti-trans Texas bathroom law “the most plainly unlawful, undemocratic legislation I’ve seen in recent history.”

What happened to all that talk about anarchists being people who criticize illegitimate authorities?
Well, there's a photo I never expected to see in my life. Noam Chomsky palling around with Steve Bannon.

Published in 2022, even under Biden they were doing this shit. Look at this stuff again if you didn't pay attention. These ideas are threats to power.

A good question to ponder--why are we imagining a future of fragmentation and violence as our only possibility?
My latest piece.

Films are increasingly depicting an American future defined by vigilantism, insurgencies & violence. For @newlinesmag.bsky.social, I explored what these films & polarized responses to them reveal about current U.S. politics.
