Last night's Horror Writers Chat got me thinking about uncomfortable scenes in my fiction. In one story I explore a prevalent societal problem, and what was absolutely vital to me was getting the tone correct. Proper research and sensitivity readers are vital in achieving that. #amwriting

Thank you Eryn and #HorrorWritersChat people.

This time of year makes us grateful for a warm place to sleep and turns our thoughts to those who don’t.

This charity anthology (which includes my story “A Tall, Thin House”) benefits women and children experiencing homelessness.

Great questions, Eryn! So much fun. Glad to be back!

I’d like to share a blog post I’m extremely proud of. It’s for neurodivergent artists like myself, my wife, and probably lots of people in this chat.

I don't actually promo much of late but I will this time.
It's a domestic noir more than a horror: about menopausal ladies bumping off bad guys with poisoned tea.
It's quite irreverent and rather funny, I think. But there's something about the Aunties. I really like them.

Those were some lovely questions, #HorrorWritersChat and I'm glad I made it this time! I'll share the things, as requested. >.>

My first novel is out, it is a horror fantasy about hungry shadows, monsters, trauma and monsters with trauma.

You can find it many places:

Gus had something to say, he had the three words on the tip of his tongue for weeks, repeated them in silence like a mantra, but didn't dare say them aloud to the person who needed to hear them. Now he would. Gus looked at the man in the mirror. "You're good enough."
Of course I'm going to do a writing prompt. Of course I am.
Go to.
I'm waiting.

There's a time and place for fading to black and negative space, and there's a time and place for writing unflinchingly. Each can be incredibly effective.

When it's time for the latter, I crawl through the muck if I have to. My extreme horror is, by design, unflinching.

Q3:
Here at #HorrorWritersChat we really do like to peel back those insecurities and fears and expose them to the light. You can do this.
Which scene do you keep putting off? And why?

No, but there is a story that no matter how many times I rewrite it, I'm not happy. When I know why, I'll let you know.

I'm not drawn to any horror topics that I find uncomfortable to write about, but I do write about real horrors. This genre is built to explore these, and they always leave a bad taste with me, and I'm glad when the story is complete.
Q2.
This question is not about the comfortable places that we go with horror. But the uncomfortable ones. The ones that turn us inside out even as we write them. The ones that make us wonder who we are, at the end. #HorrorWritersChat

I'm Nash and I write dark shit. Folk, Gothic, Body horror, ghosts and more. It's all good.

Life is dark, I'm just shining a light.
OK, so here we go, #HorrorWritersChat bods.

You know the drill. Four questions, repost as many as you like, no links: promo at the end.
First I want to know.
What makes you write the kind of horror that you write?
