On budget day, this post serves as a helpful reminder that simply being an economist doesn’t give one an infallible understanding of the world.
And that economists and leaders ignore climate limitations at our peril.
The 20th-century economist Robert Solow created the theory of infinite economic growth by substituting "technological innovation" for the productivity of land in his model, thereby decoupling the economy from any limits imposed by land or ecosystems.

The world took his theory as gospel.

Doug Ford Moves to End Rent Control
Doug Ford announced proposed changes to the LTB that would strip away key tenant protections, fast-track evictions, and open the door to ending rent control as we know it in Ontario.

NO EXTRA SERVICE TO WEST HARBOUR

Metrolinx has posted "additional" service for tonight's Blue Jays game. There will be NO extra trains to West Harbour, and the 00:47 from Union is NOT extended to WH.

NO EXTRA BUSES on QEW.

I suggest driving to Burlington or Oakville to get the train. #HamOnt

Of note: many of the delegates against the Vacant Unit Tax are citing the current housing market - they cannot sell the properties they own for the price they want.

It is worth noting that one of the purposes of the VUT is to response to the financialization of housing, to pressure sales. #yhmcc

It is important to read this op-ed about steel subsidies within the context that the author is writing on behalf of their employer which is a far-right thinktank that actively engages in climate change denial.

There's an elephant in the room when it comes to Canada's carbon pollution.

While some sectors have seen remarkable improvements, oil and gas emissions continue to climb.

That's why the Emissions Cap is desperately needed.

As the president of a national charity that works very, very hard to remain compliant with CRA rules, this kind of thing is enraging. It corrodes faith that Canadians have in the charitable system, that charitable numbers are given to organizations that are abiding by their charitable objects.

Case in point: QC Premier Legault‘s ongoing, utterly delusional calls for “certainty” in the Canada-US trade relationship.
Certainty is impossible. An agreement can’t deliver it. The problem’s not just Trump, but that the US elected an authoritarian party that no longer respects the rule of law.
