This was the final vote on the (unamended) motion that requests Mayor Horwath to not include any new FTEs in the 2026 budget from any department (aside from the exceptions mentioned above).

As we feared - there are more proposed cuts on the agenda for tomorrow #HamOnt.

The text is in red and black on a green background, it reads: URGENT CALL TO ACTION On Friday February 7th Councillor Pauls (Ward 7) and Francis (Ward 5) are proposing cuts (Items 9.5 and 9.6 for tomorrow’s Budget GIC meeting) to the Climate Change Reserve - cancelling previously approved projects that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, help us adapt to future extreme heat, and make our City more liveable. The City’s overall spending on climate change is so small still it does not even compose half of 1% of the overall budget - yet it receives more scrutiny, and now attempts at defunding, than most other City departments from Councillors. Defunding these investments will cost Hamilton more as climate change continues. Email your Hamilton Councillor today and tell them: NO CUTS TO CLIMATE ACTION IN HAMILTON
