As an Arizonan who is often frustrated at his "moderate" positions, I'm pleasantly surprised to see Gallego speak so bluntly about this.
Senator Gallego weighs in as well. Note that at the start of 2025 he was considered a *moderate* on immigration and co-sponsored the Laken Riley Act. Him and many other Dems have been increasingly horrified at what ICE is doing and shifted away from a "more enforcement" focus.

Just finished Fever House by @keithrosson.bsky.social , and now I'm itching to read the sequel. Bloody, beautiful language, and great fun to read. Thanks, @richardleis.com for the recommendation!

I loved this book - it was one of my favorite reads from the last year. The characters are well-drawn, the setting feels lived-in, and the story gripped me. Out in the UK today, but available in the US as well.
✨Asunder is out in the UK today!✨

Shortlisted for the Nebula and Locus Awards, it’s a fantasy about a woman hellbent on survival…and the talkative man she accidentally binds to her shadow.*

I'm struck by how the media, especially print media, sticks to enforced neutral language even as it is obviously being gamed by fascists.

We need a wave of 1890s muckracker journalists.

Authorities *should* be afraid to escalate.

Authorities *should* hesitate in crucial moments.

Authorities *should* be in more danger than civilians.

If they don't want to be in more danger than civilians, they need to see if the Post Office is hiring.

I'll be reading at the event at the end of the month, along with several other horror writers. It has been a rainy, mild winter so far; maybe our words can conjure up some snow for February. ❄️☃️
We have several events scheduled in January 2026, including our chapter meeting, book club, and a cold-themed reading at Beaverton City Library at the end of the month:

My son put it best when he was a young kid: "Cats are great because you get happy every time you encounter them. You turn a corner, and there's a cat there, and it's like there's a cat, and that's great."

I always think about it whenever I turn a corner and encounter a cat.

Hearing about this (for equivalent planetary science grant programs) was at least 25% of the reason I chose not to get a PhD.
When I explain to people what is involved with writing a successful grant, they simply don’t believe me.

I explained it once to a famous person from Pixar, and he looked me square in the eye and said: You mean all the cancer and Alzheimer’s grants work that way? You’ve gotta be &$%#ing kidding me!
I don't think you non-science people realize what it takes to get a grant funded by NIH. Started experiments in Sept 2021 to generate 3 new mouse mutants to model human disease. Prelim dara shows they have relevant disease phenotypes worthy of study. Need a small grant first to characterize /1

I stumbled across "Press Enter" in some secondhand scifi short story anthology, and it knocked me flat. I haven't read many other works of his, but that short story has never left me.
