so, I recently graduated to a cane (since breaking my leg in september and having surgery), though I'm not supposed to quite yet. I limp and don't want people to mow me down. For the most part it's ok. But I would appreciate any cool cane suggestions. I want to feel slightly less unfashionable?

Mary Shelly lost her virginity on her mom's grave, facilitated a lesbian wedding, and carried her dead husband’s heart around in a bag, so, yeah, I agree, let’s return to traditional values.

Lots going on but from outside it seems that at least part of the calculus was that flight disruption for middle class and up travelers matters more than life disruption for untold numbers who’ll be deprived of health care.

this is why everyone I know isn’t having kids btw
The median cost of putting one child through daycare for 5 years in the U.S. is $43,000. That masks much higher costs in many large cities. It’s nearly $150,000 (almost $30,000 for one year) in Arlington, VA. This is for one kid www.wsj.com/personal-fin...

For working parents, the first five years of a child’s life are often the most financially draining. Explore this interactive map to see how costs vary across the U.S.

My job as a professor is not to create a serviceable worker. My job is to help foster thoughtful citizens or community members.

If that sounds fanciful it’s bc corporate interests have spent decades framing how we talk about education so they don’t take the heat for immiserating labor conditions.
Do not accept the premise that education is to blame for abysmal jobs outcomes.

“The fantasy economy's framing of economic inequality… focuses exclusively on education…deflects attention away from decades of public policies and changing business practices that have…contributed to stagnating wages”

Financiers have bamboozled the public for years about their expertise in “fixing” companies. Yet they often—and sometimes deliberately—run them into the ground.

My tidy, 3,500 word essay is now some kind of deranged 7,000 word thing that no longer speaks English and has to be fed raw meat beneath the basement stairs. Not sure what I've done here.
