I’ve always wanted one of Chuck Hindes' pots, so I finally bought one. He mostly made “ugly” pots and made destroyed things. He'd bump up your kiln in the middle of the night bc of budget concerns (no overnight candling!) so you’d come in to your kiln roaring @ ^6. I learned to build kilns from him.

we have PrEP because of these monkey studies. animal welfare in medical research is extremely strictly limited and regulated to ensure ethical use. there is no replacement for these animal models in biomedical research.
EXCLUSIVE: CDC to end all monkey studies. Decision handed down by recent college grad and former DOGE employee who is now deputy chief of staff at the agency. Animals were being used in studies of HIV prevention. Some may be euthanized. My latest for @science.org
Exclusive: CDC to end all monkey research
Studies related to HIV and other infectious diseases will be phased out, sources say; fate of the agency's animals remains unclear

Oh this definitely won't lead to a bunch of weird mini-cults, no way that could happen with a system like this

THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

I hate it here.
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

Honored to be included in The Washington Post's list of 10 Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Books of 2025. I feel really lucky to have my writing so well-read by writers and thinkers I really admire: www.washingtonpost.com/books/2025/1...

The last wet clay day for the term is the 21st, so I am going to have to wait to make pots until next semester, because of broken leg nonsense and not being strong enough to walk that far. I wish I were more independent at this point but I’m doing what I can.

I think you should read this
If you told me there was this amazing essay about Simon & Garfunkel & a horse farm I *needed* to read, I'd--well, I wouldn't. But damn, this is it, by Cassidy Exner, latest in series of young writers approaching the Trumpocene slant rhyme. callingallsyllables.substack.com/p/eddie-wher...

I can reassure the New York Times that networks of mutual protection, and misogynist retaliation efforts that benefit abusive men at the expense of the young women they prey upon, are very much still intact post-Me Too.
This is nauseating: “As the emails stretch through the years, they show how that protected realm vanished into the mists of time, pulled under by the rising forces of the internet and the #MeToo movement.” A “Gone With the Wind” framing for sexual abuse and harassment.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

something i've noticed since starting to wear two shoes again (broke my leg & had surgery) is that Millie has stolen all of my socks, so none of them match. I have no idea where they went. The apartment is 600 square feet.

so, I recently graduated to a cane (since breaking my leg in september and having surgery), though I'm not supposed to quite yet. I limp and don't want people to mow me down. For the most part it's ok. But I would appreciate any cool cane suggestions. I want to feel slightly less unfashionable?

Mary Shelly lost her virginity on her mom's grave, facilitated a lesbian wedding, and carried her dead husband’s heart around in a bag, so, yeah, I agree, let’s return to traditional values.

Lots going on but from outside it seems that at least part of the calculus was that flight disruption for middle class and up travelers matters more than life disruption for untold numbers who’ll be deprived of health care.
