#ShowMeYourKnits: red & pink for Valentine's Day

This baby blanket reminded me of that candy that was just little dots of sugar that always got paper stuck to the back of them when you tried to eat them.

In honor of #Valentine'sDay, #linguistics, and #insomnia: Tell me about your familiolect!

A familiolect is the language that families/partners develop over time from shared experiences.

“Don’t google that” is right up there with “thou shalt not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” for foreshadowing a catastrophic loss of innocence.

Had an interview with a grad program today. Did not know they were going to ask content related questions. They asked about semantics and I gave a beautifully comprehensive definition.....of pragmatics.

My grandmother once told me, "I love every color as long as it's blue!"

She loved wearing blue and decorating with blue, she loved bluebonnets, she loved bluebirds.

That was the inspiration behind this blanket 💙

GET IN LOSERS WE'RE FLIPPING TEXAS
Buried in this article is the astonishing news that "Across the state Democrats have recruited candidates to run in all 150 state House districts, 16 state Senate districts and every other state and federal contest on the ballot". G-d bless Texas, get on their level.
Breaking: Democrat Taylor Rehmet wins solidly red Texas Senate seat in stunning special election upset.

#ShowMeYourKnits: greys

I don't do a ton of grey, but I did love the colors in this "sea dollar" blanket I made for my sisters-in-law!

Would you call your senators and ask them to vote "yes" on extending ACA subsidies?

Texas:
John Cornyn: (202) 224-2934
Ted Cruz: (202) 224-5922

New York:
Chuck Schumer: (202) 224-6542
Kirsten Gillibrand: (202) 224-4451

Our Christmas plans got detailed by COVID exposure but at least there's gonna be 12 hours of good basketball on 🤷‍♀️

I would be incredibly indebted if you would do this.
Please call your member of the House today and ask them to support extending enhanced ACA premium subsidies so working families don’t lose health care. Your voice matters, especially on a vote this important.

A fun anxiety thing lately:

I have a low level of anxiety floating around about nothing in particular.

So then in the process of trying to identify what I'm anxious about, I think of seven possible things that I COULD be anxious about

Which leads me to being anxious about ALL of them.

Ken Paxton, the Texas AG has created a bathroom snitch line to report suspected trans people in bathrooms.

Please don't spam this form that lacks a captcha code and definitely don't create a script to automate it. That would be very very wrong to do.

#CrochetAway: WIP edition!

I have uhhhhh several WIPs right now, but this one is a sweater for my neighbor's doggo.

This is the basic pattern: mariasbluecrayon.com/2020/08/croc...

She's a pittie with broad shoulders and a big chest, so I'm improvising some.

That was some seriously fun basketball. Congrats, Spurs! 🏀

What the actual --

No.

I am not tryna die of breast cancer, thankyouverymuch.
Since 1992, the diagnoses of eight cancers has doubled in the U.S. in patients under age 50, including breast and thyroid cancer. While experts debate why, some cancer specialists say the surge is from detecting cancers that did not need to be found — or did not need to be found so soon.
Cancer Is Surging, Bringing a Debate About Whether to Look for It
Statistics show a clear spike in eight cancers, but some experts say that many cases never needed to be found.
