Only just discovered this excellent list of books (part1) and I’m trusting HLB on these! Love seeing Richard Scarry, Tove Jansson and Bill Watterson on one list.

Goodnight.
‘The whole Moomin family had, as usual, hibernated for the winter and set the alarm clock to ring on the first of April. But the clock was old and not to be trusted, so it woke them up for Christmas instead. Since she was awake anyway, Moominmamma made coffee.’ ~ 🖼️ 🖊️ Tove Jansson

So now in order to read the books, I’m going to have to read up on the reading list first to make sure the books are real. Awesome! (New list, don’t let me down, BBC).
12 books you need to read in 2026
Fictional gems, debut thillers, cracking biographies and everything in between.

Meri Kirihimete, to all who celebrate, may the pavlovas be intact and the parents of young’uns filled with stamina for the day ahead. However you spend today, sending restorative wishes your way. Water sometimes helps. 🎄

Experiencing the windowless depths of ED since 3.30pm, supporting a whānau member (they’re ok, now). Feeling v. grateful & impressed (and not surprised) by the warmth (humour!) & professionalism of every health care worker we’ve encountered today: EMT’s, orderlies, clerks, nurses, docs. Treasures. 🙏🏼

#NZ 🦠 I hope people are checking these locations

There are new locations added for Queenstown and Canterbury, incl. close contact locations where isolation comes into play if you’re not fully immunised.

Please do the isolation if it’s recommended. I was last year. Never worked out what it was.

Approval rating high for all these most excellent cat names.
I reckon you can learn a lot about the atmosphere in various Oxford colleges by looking at what they choose to name their cats (courtesy of @oxfordclarion.bsky.social ). We should all aspire to the energy of a Teabag, Isambard Kitten Brunel, or an Admiral Flapjack

And there's now a Wikipedia article about McLeans Grassland Reserve (which incidentally mentions the Mayor's comments). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLeans...

Up at sunrise and photographing McLeans Grassland Reserve for Wikipedia. One of the last surviving fragments of the original Canterbury Plains dryland ecosystem, it became a reserve in 2021 and is being restored with native plants, but the mayor thinks it should be covered in solar panels instead.

Really disappointing that the mayor wants to turn one of the last remaining remnants of the pre-human Canterbury Plains into a solar farm, rather than see it restored it as a scientific reserve.
The city owns more than 3000 properties - enough to fill Hagley Park 66 times over - including a little-known grasslands reserve the mayor has a surprising plan for. “It’s going to cause a bit of a furore,” he admits.

Thoroughly enjoying ‘wasting time’ with the inimitable Bill Nighy. Recommend for anyone who has an impish sense of humour and also abhors tight fitting dress pants. Also the air guitar solo at end of S1E5 was a belter.
