If I could reduce all my political ideas to one sentence, it would be this: You can't leave a bad system intact, and leave all the abusive and awful people created by that system unpunished, and maintain the same fuel that powered that system, and expect things to be different in the future.

Rankin County guards mock intellectually disabled man- Mississippi Today
Days after Rankin County jail guards used an electric vest to shock an intellectually disabled man in exchange for a Coke, they shared videos of him singing Happy Birthday and falling for pranks.

A horrifying graphic from Pew showing the fruits of the right wing war on public health.

Only 48% of Republicans believe that vaccines prevent serious illness, while 80% of Democrats do.

This is not a difference of opinion in science. This is the result of a ruthless disinformation campaign.

If democrats ever control the US government again it will have to result in a massive audit of all gov hires done during the Trump admin and equally massive round of firings and prosecutions. If they make the same mistakes they made during the Biden administration there’s no remedy for the rot

It’s the kind of run of the mill ableism any kind of chronically ill person can tell you runs so deep in our culture that even the most progressive people ascribe to it to some degree. It’s also the wizard behind the wellness curtain. This is not a uniquely right-wing ugliness, unfortunately
Setting aside the obvious reality that many people develop medical conditions unrelated to behaviors (eg, type 1 diabetes), 80-90% of our health is shaped by non-medical factors like poverty, housing, education, transportation & access to healthy food. The personal responsibility frame is unhelpful.
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

I wonder, what would've happened if the majority of doctors, out of decency, professionality, and caution, had put on a respirator... many people would now be wearing respirators in public spaces. They were one of the key factors in demonizing and throwing away the minimum precautionary principle.

USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins plans to make all SNAP recipients reapply and prove "that they literally are vulnerable and they can’t survive without it.”

The 'genuinely disabled'

The 'literally vulnerable'

They keep moving the goalposts.

They were never going to fund SNAP. It's eugenics:
Trump administration will require SNAP participants to reapply for benefits
Food aid recipients are already required to recertify their information regularly. But the move is part of USDA chief Brooke Rollins’ effort to overhaul the program.

When people talk about the excesses of MeToo, they have to lie, because the reality is that there was no massive social reckoning forcing people to believe survivors or hold perpetrators accountable. In fact, there has been a significant backsliding and new punishments in rejection of MeToo

This is insane. Teen Vogue had fantastic political coverage, and if that astonishes you it's because you've not been paying attention. This is part of a concerted effort by capital to silence any voices capable of actual analysis. It should enrage you.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

The USDA is the fail safe for SNAP.

They have a contingency fund to ensure it’s covered in the event of a shutdown.

They’re refusing.

Grocery stores stepped up to try and help by offering discounts to any SNAP recipients and the USDA told them they had to stop.

Starvation as a policy choice.

They stop colds, flus and other airborne illness.

They’re also highly effective against pollen, pollution, wildfire smoke and environmental triggers.

If I say what needs to be said I’ll get banned, so I’ll offer the late Shafiqah Hudson’s words. She was right & still is. Kevin’s right too. Most won’t accept reality until it’s too late to save millions from death and harm. Even their own kids. It’s why public health wasn’t supposed to be “opt in”.
