my train is here (shockingly early, I didn't think it could possibly be my train) and I fear I've ruined myself for coach by getting a roomette just this once bc I already love this

going back to my usual goal of completing a new first draft of,,, something

since, y'know, I didn't do that this year
Hey, #writingcommunity...

What's one big writing goal you want to accomplish in 2026??

I'd like to start cheering you on immediately, please and thanks 💜

If you've read Indie Books this year, and enjoyed any particular character rep, show the author some love by voting for their book in the Indie Ink Awards!

(No, my books aren't in it this year. Yes, you can scan each award category by book cover as you vote.)

Quote this with what you have accomplished in 2025, no matter how big or small
Reading & writing has kept me alive this year.

Somehow, it’s been my most productive year as an author.

Here’s a guide to what I’ve published in 2025, in case you’ve lost track.

Adverbs are fine. Sometimes there really is a difference between "she whispered" and "she said softly."

she's coming back with a vengeance which extra sucks bc I can't just go to bed, I gotta stay up past my bedtime, with a migraine, to wait for a train that's always late 🥲
once again reminded that as much as I love Savannah I could never live in the South, bc the Telfair Museum was on the warm side and I start getting a migraine just walking around it and it's not even hot outside 🥲

idk what it is about Silvia Moreno-Garcia's books in particular that keep inspiring me to write a Gothic novel, except that they're just so good

🎶 I don’t want a lot for Christmas
I just want one thing from you.
For that A.I. bubble to burst,
And all the tech bros get sued. 🎶

I would be so much less annoyed about this song if this was how it went
Last Christmas Ich gave thee myne hearte
The verye next daye ther came a wolf
Wyth sinews of whispers - quiet as frost -
And the wolf stole myne hearte, fled
To a tower out of tyme biyonde all the stars.
Seek now myne hearte,
Return it within a yeare and a daye:
Thys ys thy queste

Arthur from THE LORD OF THE WOOD smiles about

- romance novels
- clocks
- his sister and the kids, especially his niece Sasha who is his darling

it's surprisingly easy to make him smile with the above considering he's very lonely, but I guess he's less bitter than most of my characters 😅
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Family holiday things tonight so may be slow to respond! But I hope everyone who celebrates is having a good holiday!

What is something that makes your character genuinely smile?

Is it easy to do?

absolutely cackling over this Note to Readers in my edition of THE THREE MUSKETEERS, in which they went "of course no one cares about the chronological inaccuracies in this book bc it's just such a good book! they're not our fault though"

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing a text, writing an email, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing since the dawn of time.

The survey is open to non-members (I am not one) and to readers (who here is not &c.) so I encourage you to share your feelings on the matter. Don't assume that everyone already understands that AI is bad or why! I mean, people *should*, but you could say that about a lot of things.

In this press release, our Board of Directors apologizes for recent events.

Feedback from writers is strongly welcomed in the survey.
